OLSOFI promotes advocacy on basic children's rights which includes spiritual and value formation, socio-cultural awareness, and
enhancement of developmental skills, and provides assistance for formal and non-formal education to less privileged youth from
Elementary to College Education. This particular program is a collaborative effort with our partnerships with the different agencies
by sharing information, combining resources, undertaking joint education and training-related projects, and holding dialogues with
concerned educational and training institutions in both the private and public sectors. The program also focuses to bring out the
best in young people as future leaders and movers in their communities. Youth Animation Formation Program is a new approach to
values formation and leadership training, it deals with the children and young people to be organized and spontaneous in different
developmental stages to feel the joy of living life to the full with courage and hope.
III. Project Background
a. Project Context
i. This project takes place online, given the current circumstances which is the COVID-19 pandemic, which involves children,
specifically those who are Grades 7 to 8. The project focuses on advocating for basic children’s rights, with a theme that puts
emphasis on mental well-being.
b. The goals of this project are the following
i. To enhance the children’s personal development by which it uplifts their well-being, particularly their mental health.
ii. To promote mental health awareness and engage in meaningful discussions and interactions that broaden their perception
of mental health.
c. Rationale
i. While spreading awareness on mental health has become more progressive and frequent, there is still the need introducing
and educating mental health awareness especially to children during the pandemic. According to a study cited by Abramson
(2022), mental-health related emergency department visits had surges that varied with 24% and 31% for ages that ranged 5-
11 and 12-17 respectively. While this is one of the many testimonies, it shows the need to educate and promote mental
health awareness to children in order to guide them and even their parents/ people who care for them to know how to deal
with it in a healthier and more positive manner.
d. relevance of the project to the needs of the center
i. This project is relevant to the needs of the center as mental health awareness plays a vital role in the personal development
of children. Discussions on mental health enables these children to know how they can process their emotions, and engaging
with others gives them more confidence in sharing and establishing a sense of solidarity with themselves and their peers.
