Start Recycling!
Purpose of your article: Convince students to begin recycling programs at
home during the pandemic
Who: Elementary school students
What: Begin recycling projects at home
How: Together with family members, come up with recycling projects and share
it on social media to encourage others to recycle
Why recycling is important:
1. Saves natural resources: By making products from recycled materials instead
of new materials, we save trees and reduce the need to dig for minerals.
2. Saves energy: It takes less energy to make products from recycled materials
than from new materials.
3. Saves clean air and water: Making containers and products from recycled
materials reduces acid rain, air pollution and global warming.
4. Saves landfill space: When recycled materials go into new products, they don't
go into landfills, so landfill space is saved. Also, it reduces fees that companies
have to pay to dump trash in the landfill.
5. Saves money and creates jobs: Recycling is often the cheapest way for cities
to get rid of their waste. And the recycling process creates far more jobs than
operating landfills or incinerators.
Suggested home recycling projects:
1. Make and decorate recycling bins at home. Have a contest for the coolest bin!
2. Create posters, newsletters and skits to teach others about recycling.
3. Start buying more reusable items for your home — and for yourself!
4. Have a waste-free lunch day. Place your food in reusable containers instead of
throw-away bags, paper and plastic.
Statements: Statement by recycling expert Buckley "Buck" Knox: "When
you recycle, you make the air cleaner and the water fresher for everyone on the
planet."

An elementary student goes viral because of her recycling project.
The students in Lian central school begin recycling projects at home
together with their family members, come up with recycling projects and share it
on social media to encourage others to recycle.
Since 2020 the whole world is facing a pandemic, it has affected everyone
and it stop the people from going to different places and doing activities outside
especially the kids but the elementary students in Lian central school didn’t allow
the pandemic to stop them from being productive and saving the mother earth.
Sophia A. Benson, grade six, one of the student from Lian central school
posted a picture of her recycling project in her Facebook account with a caption
“The family that recycle together, stays together. Let us all take part in saving our
mother earth. Let’s reduse, reuse and recycle!”. The post garnered a hundreds of
likes and shares and many of the citizens was happy to see that even in a young
age she knows how to take care of the environment.
The post has inspired many of the students and the caption
#LETUSALLRECYCLE became trending for a week. Sophia said in another post
that she was happy that a lot of people appreciate what their family did and
continue to encourage everyone, especially students like her to joined the
recycling project in their home also.
She also suggested home recycling projects that everyone can do during
this time of pandemic like making and decorating recycling bins at home and
have a contest for the coolest bin, create posters, newsletters and skits to teach
others about recycling, start buying more reusable items for your home and for
yourself and have a waste-free lunch day. Place the food in reusable containers
instead of throw-away bags, paper and plastic and ask everyone to post it in their
social media with a caption #LETUSALLRECYCLE .
At a young age she is worried that the next generation will not experience
a healthy environment so she is encouraging everyone especially the students to
take part in this project.
The earth is in a bad state now and if it continues to be polluted humans
can experience a big difference especially in climate and everything. This is the
reason why recycling is very important as it can save natural resources, energy,
clear water, landfill space, and save money and creating jobs. As recycling
expert Buckley "Buck" Knox said, "When you recycle, you make the air cleaner
and the water fresher for everyone on the planet."
