Title: Biomolecules (Updated) – 8:12
Channel: Amoeba Sisters
2. Answer the questions below based on your own understanding. Type your answer after each question
using bold green font.
3. Save this file in pdf format and submit to the Assignment tab in our Team.
I. Answer each question completely.
1. What are biomolecules?
Large molecules that are needed for life, usually found in food.
2. What are the four major biomolecules?
Carbohydrate, nucleic acid, lipid, protein
3. What is a monomer?
The parts that make up a large substance, or a building block. It is what biomolecules are made of.
4. What are carbohydrates?
A great, fast source of energy.
5. What are lipids?
Better known as fats, can store energy for a long time.
6. What are proteins?
Great for muscle building, made up of chemical building blocks called amino acids to make hormones and
enzymes.
7. What are nucleic acids?
Includes DNA and RNA, they carry genetic information.
II. Complete the table with the correct information.
Name of Biomolecule Major Function/s Monomer Elements Present
Carbohydrates A fast and great source monosaccharide Carbon, hydrogen, and
of energy oxygen
Lipids Fats that store energy Fatty acids and glycerol Carbon, hydrogen,
for a long time oxygen. Some have
phosphorus, nitrogen,
sulfur, etc
Proteins Good for building Amino acids Carbon, hydrogen, and
muscle oxygen
Nucleic acid It has DNA and RNA nucleotides Carbon, hydrogen,
for carrying genetic oxygen, nitrogen,
information phosphorus
III. Paste a photo of the structure of each biomolecule.
Carbohydrates Lipids
Proteins Nucleic acids
