Portage Police Update on School Threat

Regarding the active shooter incident at the Portage High School on January 3, 2023 and
subsequent investigation, the Portage Police Department has identified a 15-year-old
juvenile male from Sarasota, Florida and are currently working with juvenile authorities
and multiple law enforcement jurisdictions across the United States and Canada navigating
the juvenile logistics of securing detention and the charging of Terroristic Threats and
Swatting for this individual.
At this time, the Portage Police Department, with the assistance of the Sarasota County
(Florida) Sheriff’s Office has linked the 15-year-old juvenile male from Sarasota to both
school and residential targeted swatting calls in the States of Wisconsin, Washington,
North Carolina and Indiana, as well as, internationally in Ontario, Canada. The nature of
these calls involve but are not limited to; active shooters, bomb threats and personal life
and death related threats.
This investigation and its’ disposition continue to be active with aid and additional
resources from multiple school districts across the United States, as well as, local, state,
federal and international law enforcement authorities.
