“SUMMARY OF LESSONS”
In every grade level of school there is always a subject called Physical
Education, why do we study it? Why is physical education important and what are the
benefits? Physical education provides a solid foundation for further studies relating to
movement and the body, including the social and health sciences, recreation, and
tourism. It provides a pathway into the many careers that involve and careers working
with people, such as education, health, justice, sports journalism, and social services.
Regardless of that, what exactly are the lessons that are tackled? That is gonna be
discussed as the whole coverage of this paper.
The First lesson that discussed in this 2nd Grading are all about
Contemporary Dance. Contemporary Dance is the expressivedance technique which
is a combination of variety of dances: modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet, and it
is also performing art that involves rhythmic body movement within a given space,
choreograph based on musical beat. The History of Contemporary Dance emerged in
the 1950‟s out of the constraints of Classical Ballet. Martha Graham she is the one
decided to rebel against the rigid style of Ballet and perform movement that was
„freer‟ and involved using the body and gravity. In the Past •She started to use
costumes that were away from the traditional lyrical dresses and ballet Tutus ( a
female ballet dancer‟s costume). From that the word Contemporary Dance continued
to develop into „Modern Dance‟ as it is today. During the Philippine Contemporary
Dance, there Schools like FEU, PNU and PWU form the “Barangay Folk Dance
Troupe”. There are 2 women who performed Ballet those 2 name are OROSA
GOQUINGCO National Filipino artist in creative dance and REMEDIOS DE
OTEYZA one of the famous ballet performer and choreographer here in the
Philippines. In philippines Contemporary Dance have 3 Big names, namely ALICE
REYES National Artist for dance (2014), LIZA TERISITA PACHECO
MACUJAELIZALDE Founder of ballet manila, and DOUGLAS NIERRAS Douglas
Nierras is the founder, Artistic Director, and Choreographer of Douglas Nierras
Power dance.It also discuss about the Difference of Contemporary Dance and Modern
Dance. Contemporary Dance is a collaborative style that includes modern, jazz,
ballet, and hip hop elements while Modern Dance Is a specific style of dance that is
free form and stems from the core, or torso, of the body and uses elements like
contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation. There 5 different
Techniques in Contemporary dance Cunningham Technique, Graham Technique,
Limon Technique, Release Technique, and Improvisation Technique. There also
Types of Contemporary Dance like Contemporary Ballet, Dance Improvisation,
Interpretative Dance, and Lyrical Dance. There are 8 elements of Contemporary
Dance, THEME, DESIGN, MOVEMENT, TECHNIQUE, MUSIC, COSTUME
AND PARAPHERNALIA, CHOREOGRAPHY and SCENERY. Now we go to the
last part of Contemporary Dance 6 Vocabulary, Parallel position, Demi- Pointes,
Contraction, Release, Roll Down, Jump and Support/Balance. Moving on to our
Second Lesson are about Social Dance. Social Dance It is commonly known as
ballroom dance where in ballroom is a form of social dance in which the main
purpose is for recreation and entertainment. The History of Social Dance isPrimitive
cultures dancing to celebrate a birth or mourn a death. It continued to develop and
evolve mingling the dances of other cultures such as the Middle East, Africa and
Europe. Did you know that the word Ballroom Dancing is originated from
Latin word “ballare” which means „to dance‟. In this lesson it mention about the
Male and Female Dresscode/Costumes. Male and Femael both have Standard and
Latin Costumes addition to that the femal have one costumes called Practice
Costumes. There 3 elements in Social Dance, Timing, Steps and Footwork, Lead and
Follow. There are also 2 styles of Clarifications Smooth or Modern Standard Dance,
and Rhythm or Latin American Dance. Types of Social Dance, Salsa, Mambo, Cha-
cha-cha, Rumba, and Samba. While in Modern Dances it have Slow waltz, Tango,
Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, and Quick Step. In this lesson also mention about the Basic
Partner Position namely SHINE POSITION, ONE-HAND JOINED POSITION,
TWO-HANDS JOINED POSITION, INSIDE- HAND JOINED POSITION, and
SEMI – OPEN POSITION. Now we move on to Third Lesson all about Cheer
Dance. Cheer Dance is to cheer is to shout out words or phrase and dance, on the
other hand, is a physical activity where one expresses emotions or gestures while
performing bodily movements, it is also sports team motivation, audience
entertainment, competition based upon organized routine. Cheerdance is rooted
Cheerleading is the performance of a routine, usually dominated by gymnastic skills
such as jumps, tumbling skills, lift and tosses combined with shouting of cheers and
yells to lead the crown to cheer for a certain team during a game or sport. The History
of Cheerdance is that Originated in the Great Britain during 1860’s and spread to
the united states during 1880’s. Cheer dance it was also was started by men.
Lawrence Herkimer is the Grandfather of Cheerleading, Legend and innovator in the
field of cheerleading, He is also the Founder of :National Cheerleaders Association,
Cheerleading Supply Company, etc.. In this lesson discuss also the Equipment in
Cheerdance like Poms, Megaphone, Cheer Mats, and First Aid Kit. The cheerleading
positions are definitely mentions, like Flyers, Bases or mounts and Spots. There are
Differents Arm/Hand Motion, the following: BUCKET, CLAP, CLASP, HIGH and
LOW-V, LEFT and RIGHT DIAGONAL, T-MOTION, BROKEN-T, DAGGERS,
RIGHT and LEFT L-MOTION, next we have Post Motion, the following: LIBERTY,
RIGHT and LEFT HITCH HEEL STRETCH and ARABESQUE. There also 3
Different level of Pyramid, the level are diffferentiate into LEVEL 1, 2, 3.
In concluded that the Three Lesson that are discuss in 2 nd Grading, greatly help
me to learn new things, to know about this topic that are hardly get on. Simple recap

Addition, the Lesson have similaraties like they have routines which makes do stunts,
tumbling, flexibility, and workouts to make you stronger, work on leaps, flexibility,
and combos to learn so you're able to move fluently.
