Abstraction/ Legal bases of the conduct of Action Research
Generalization  Republic Act 9155 – The Department of Education (DepEd) is
(60 minutes) mandated to undertake educational research and studies that
will serve as bases for necessary reforms and policy
development to ensure the delivery of quality basic
education.
 Republic Act 10533 – The DepEd shall maintain the
“relevant, responsive, and research-based” nature and
characteristic of the curriculum.
What is an Action Research
“Action Research is a systematic, reflective inquiry to improve
educational practices or resolve problems in any operating unit
(e.g. school, classroom, office).” DepEd Order No. 16, s. 2017
The Action Research Process
(O’ Leary, 2017)
 Identify a problem
 Research the problem and its probable causes
 Develop a response to the problem
 Implement the proposed solution
 Reflect on the results (and start over, if necessary)
(Kemmis, 1995)
The process of action research is cyclic in nature (Kemmis, 1995).
