AFE BABALOLA UNIVERSITY
COLLEGE OF MEDICINE & HEALTH SCIENCES
DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE AND SURGERY
2019/2020 COURSE OUTLINE
COURSE TITLE: GENERAL BIOLOGY II
COURSE CODE: BIO 102
CREDIT UNITS: 4
DURATION: TWO LECTURE HOURS
SEMESTER: SECOND SEMESTER
LOCATION: MHS COLLEGE AUDITORIUM
PREREQUISITES: BIO 101
INSTRUCTOR’S NAME: MISS TOPE, MR LAOYE
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course focus on topics like macromolecules,
cellular structure, metabolism and genetics in an evolutionary context. Also, it
explores the core concepts of evolution, overview of plant kingdom, overview
of animal kingdom and the relevance of science to the society.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the completion of this course, students are exposed
to a broad body of biological concepts that will guide them in building and
developing skills that they can apply to real world situations.
GRADES: Grades to be used for the candidates who satisfactorily complete the
requirements of a course by the end of the semester are:
Letter Grade Grade Point Mark
A 5 70-100

F 0 0-44
ASSESMENT SYSTEM;
1. CONTINUOUS ASSESMENT: 40%
2. END OF SEMESTER EXAMINATION:60%
The continuous assessment component consists of take-home assignments,
class quizzes and tests, term papers and project work. This component gives
student the chance to demonstrate their abilities on a wider variety of learning
tasks and a broader variety of work environment than is possible under formal
examination conditions. Attendance is MANDATORY as students with less than
75% attendance will, in line with the university regulation, not be allowed to sit
for the examination. Students are expected to submit assignment as scheduled
The class of the degree of a candidate who has successfully completed his/her
course of studies shall be determined as follows:
Cumulative Class of Degree
4.5-5.0 1 = First Class
3.5-4.49 2 = Second Class Upper
2.5-3.49 2 = Second Class Lower
1.5-2.49 3 = Third Class
The list of successful candidates shall be published with the following
classification: First Class Honours, Second Class Honours (Upper and Lower
Division) and Third Class Honours with the names arranged alphabetically.
