3D Cell Model Project Guide for Students

The document provides guidance for a performance assessment task where students will construct 3D models of plant, animal, and bacterial cells using recyclable materials. It outlines the content and performance standards which focus on understanding cell structure and functions. Students will be evaluated based on accuracy of parts, completeness, visual appeal, and proper use of materials. The task aims to assess students' knowledge of major organelles and their structure and function within different cell types.

ADMINISTRATION GUIDE FOR TEACHERS

Biology I

I. Content Standard

The learners demonstrate an understanding of the cell structure and functions

II. Performance Standard

The learners shall be able to construct 3D model of the plant/animal/bacterial cell

using recyclable material.

III. Learning Competencies

The learners describe the structure and function of the major and subcellular

organelles (STEM_BIO11/12-Ia-c-2)

IV. Performance Task

Materials: expanded polystyrene, cardboards, old newspaper, old PVC pipe, PET bottles,

and plywood

Procedure:

1. Group the learners into three (3).

2. Allow each group to choose the cell type (plant/animal/bacterial cell) they want to

work on.

3. Let each group draw their chosen cell type. Check the drawing for accuracy and

completeness.
4. After checking the group’s drawing, allow each group to select the specific recyclable

materials (expanded polystyrene, cardboards, old newspaper, old PVC pipe, PET

bottles, and plywood) for their cell model

5. Let each group construct a 3D model of the plant/animal/bacterial cell using the

chosen recyclable material

6. Inform the learners that the constructed 3D model will be showcased and judged by

the science teachers in the school using the following cfiteria:

a. Accuracy

b. Completeness

c. Visual appeal

d. Use of Recyclable Materials

V. Evaluation Criteria

Evaluate the learners’ output using the rubric below.

In the criteria Accuracy, check the label of each cell organelle/part.

For Completeness, evaluate if all cell organelles are present.

 If the cell type is a bacterium, it must include the following parts: Cell membrane, cell

wall, single circular DNA, cytoplasm, ribosomes

 If it is an animal cell, it must include the following parts: Cell membrane, Cytoplasm,

Nucleus, Nucleolus, Nuclear envelope, Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum, Smooth

Endoplasmic Reticulum, Golgi Bodies, Mitochondria, Vacuoles, Lysosomes,

Centrioles, Cytoskeleton

 If it is a plant cell, it must include the following parts: Cell membrane, Cell wall,

Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Nucleolus, Nuclear envelope, Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum,

Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum, Golgi Bodies, Mitochondria, Chloroplast, Vacuoles,

Lysosomes, Cytoskeleton

To construct a 3D model of the plant/animal/bacterial cell using recyclable material

Materials: recyclable materials expanded polystyrene, cardboards, old newspaper, old PVC

pipe, PET bottles, and plywood

Procedures:

1. Form three (3) groups.

2. Choose the cell type (plant/animal/bacterial cell) you want to work on.

4. This drawing will be checked by the teacher for accuracy and completeness

5. Select the specific recyclable materials you will use (expanded polystyrene,

cardboards, old newspaper, old PVC pipe, PET bottles, and plywood)

6. Start constructing a 3D model of the chosen cell type (label each cell part)

All organelles must be present.

 If the cell type is a bacterium, it must include the following parts: Cell membrane, cell

wall, single circular DNA, cytoplasm, ribosomes

 If it is an animal cell, it must include the following parts: Cell membrane, Cytoplasm,
