QSK60 M/D(M)
Cooling system Keel Cooler
1 Bypass Tube
2 Orifice Plate
3 Jacket Water Outlet
The Bypass tube allows a
controlled amount of coolant
to bypass the Keel cooler
and return to the water pump.
This must be blanked off if a
Radiator is fitted.
Customer must supply an
Expansion tank.

QSK60 M/D(M)
Cooling system Keel Cooler
Various types of cooler
installations are used to protect
the cooler from damage when
operating in shallow water.
These will effect the cooling
properties of the cooler due to
the flow of water being different
per application.

QSK60 M/D(M)
Cooling system Heat Exchanger Function
The QSK60 heat exchanger, option
HX 6130, utilizes a titanium plate design
that is mounted on the front of the engine.
The jacket water and LTA circuits are
both located in the same heat exchanger
and divided by a pair of blanking plates.
The seawater pump, option SW 6030,
is mounted off the front of the hydraulic
gear drive. The LTA pump, option
TB 6758, is mounted on the rear.

10.Low temperature aftercooler
thermostats (open)
11.Low temperature aftercooler coolant
return to low temperature aftercooler
Heat Exchanger or Keel Cooler.
At 97.2 ºC the thermostats are fully open
Never operate the engines with out
Thermostats this will cause the engine
To overheat.
During the transition phase coolant will
Pass through bypass and radiator.

Low Temperature After Cooling
The LTA Thermostats begin to open at
46.1ºC until then coolant flows from the
LTA pump through the after coolers and
Bypass back to the pump.
At 57.2ºC the LTA thermostats are fully
Open coolant then flows to the Heat Exchanger
or Keel Cooler
The LTA system is designed to maintain a
Charge air temperature of 65.6ºC
During the transition phase
coolant will Pass through
bypass and Heat Exchanger
or Keel Cooler.

Water Filters
The water filters of the
QSK45/60 engine range
Contain Supplemental
Coolant Additives (SCA) to
Condition the engine cooling
System. During normal coolant
Flow coolant passes through the
Filters and a specified amount
Of additive is fed into the system
Do not attempt any cooling system operations until
coolant temp is below 50ºC Risk of Scalding.
