previous lesson or picture?

Then say: There are different types of nouns. These are Proper
Nouns and Common Nouns. Ms. Tala, Joe, Antonette,
Dumaguete City, Jane, Robert, Dr. Reyes, Mark, Jollibee and
Sarah are proper nouns. Commons nouns are books, cousin,
school, seashore, chocolates, house, pigs, friend and mat.

What is the difference between common and proper noun?


Which nouns begin with small letter and which with capital letter?
Common nouns name general people, places, things, animals and
ideas.
Some examples: table, chair, school, store, war, week, dog,
month.
Do not use a capital letter for a common noun, unless it starts in a
sentence.

• School starts at 9:00 in the morning.


• We start school at 9:00 am. (NOT: We start School at 9:00 am.)

            Proper nouns name specific people, places, things,


animals and ideas. They always begin with capital letters.
           Proper nouns include the days of the week, the months of
the year, towns, cities, streets, states, countries, and brands.
           Names are all proper nouns, too! Notice how your first,
middle, and last name are all capitalized: they are proper nouns
because they indicate a specific, particular person - you!

Example: My favorite restaurant is Blue Monkey Grill.


           Blue Monkey Grill is a proper noun because it names a
specific restaurant. It is also written in capital letter.

          Is the word restaurant a proper noun?


          No. There are many restaurants. Therefore, restaurant is a
common noun.

Some proper nouns have more than one word, so you need to
capitalize all words in a proper noun (Mrs. Alonzo, Iron Man, Sans
Rival).

Days of the week, months of the years, and holidays are


proper nouns. Always capitalize them.
