LESSON 1 - THE TEACHER AS A PERSON IN THE SOCIETY

Critical Questions: Reflect and write your answer to the following questions.
1. Looking at the triumphs and failures of teachers today, do you think that
teaching is still the noblest profession? Explain your answer.
As we notice and witness, many accounts that most teachers are gaining
public attention because of their failures and unwanted actions nowadays. But
aside from that, teachers also have triumphs to be celebrated. Moreover,
teachers are doing their very best to be able to teach properly and do what they
must do. I think that teaching is still the noblest profession because no matter
how hard the situation, what struggles to come, and what failures gained they still
keep on standing and still committing to their professional track.
2. What are the things that should be improved in the professional life of
teachers?
They said that teachers are one of the good influencers, good examples,
and good role models - especially to their leaner. Because you are a model to
them, there is some point that they will apply and imitate your actions, speaking,
characteristics, attitudes, and so on. What I want to be improved in the
professional life of teachers and apply in my professional life in the future as a
teacher is that you know your boundaries and how your duties and obligation are
to be done.
Why I chose these things to be improved in the professional life of a
teacher? Simple, because what I see, what I notice, and what I witness most
teachers do not know their boundaries anymore. In any situation and based on
my own experiences, teachers sometimes joke inappropriately toward the

learner. Which is not very good in some views. What if the learner became shy,
hurt, and down to not going to school anymore? A teacher should know his/her
limitations and he/she should set borders toward the relationship between
teacher-to-student and student-to-teacher. Teachers are professional and they
should act rightly and accordingly. And the teacher should know their duties and
obligations. Duties that be a good example to others - especially to hid/her
students. Wear proper attire, have a great background, and asses what is right,
what is wrong, and how to act in any situation. And obligations, they are teachers
to teach, to educate, to decimate, and of course one of the sources of happiness
and enjoyment.
To sum it up, teachers are one of the greatest molders of society. They see
them as professional, they are acknowledged by society, and respected by the
people. They should control and avoid decisions that will make them or will lead
them to an undesirable profession by society. Furthermore, a teacher should
evaluate themselves if they are accomplishing their obligations and duties as a
teacher. Because they pledge to teach and educate young folks, so they must do
it in a professional way.
3. Interview a model professional teacher in your school. What made him/her
an outstanding professional?
The teacher that I interviewed was very close to me and a good role model
to his students. This teacher is outstanding in his profession because he set
boundaries for the relationship between teacher-to-student and student-to-
teacher. He also knows how to gain attention by the way of his expression,
language choice, determination, characteristics, and attitude. In some accounts,
this teacher never-ever put his anger from home into his classroom. Moreover, he
thought us and educated us properly. He also encourages us to work harder, he
motivated us and of course helps us at some point. In addition, this teacher
knows what to do and what should be done.
