SYNOPSIS
TITLE: “INVESTIGATION AND ANALYSIS OF AUSTENITIC AND FERRITIC
STAINLESS STEEL DISSIMILAR WELD JOINT”
Introduction:
As in industries now a days the material type, grade selection and dissimilar welding
is one of the aspects in the industries which we have to take care of, industries like
chemical, petroleum, oil, shipbuilding, etc.
Welding is a fabrication process used for joining metallic parts usually through the
application of heat. Welding is a well-known technique in steel equipment
fabrication. Welding changes the properties of materials.
Welding is essential to study the effect of welding process on various materials so to
provide optimal solution and for more productivity in different industries. Material
like Austenitic Stainless Steel and Ferrite Stainless Steel having properties like
excellent Corrosion Resistance, Higher Creep, Good Weldability due to Titanium and
niobium stabilization and High Temperature Strength.

PLAN OF WORK
During interaction with company officials, it is observed that as an industrial process,
the cost of welding and material plays important role in manufacturing decisions. For
the betterment of the industries. The material Austenitic stainless steel (ASS) has
excellent resistance to corrosion which contains chromium, nickel and carbon. But
cost of nickel is increasing day by day. So, industries are looking for alternative
material which reduces cost and give strength as that of austenitic stainless steel.
From literature, ferritic stainless steel (FSS) can be an alternative which we are
suggesting to the industries as a replacement of austenitic stainless steel. Hence by
testing ASS and FSS with different welding conditions and analysis of the weld joint.
The suggestions given to industries which will reduce the material cost and increase
the rate of production.
Accordingly following plan of action is prepared.
