Computing Network Design Quiz

1. The document describes a quiz with questions about network topologies and types. 2. The first question asks to identify the best physical topology to implement for different labs based on criteria like cost, security, and ease of configuration. 3. The second question asks to identify the most suitable network structure for an organization needing storage, security, and simultaneous user access.

Quiz 2 Introduction To Computing Total Marks

Name: Date:

Q1:
You have been hired as a network designer in Kinnaird College for Women to set up a LAN
of 6 computers for the Computer Science Department Office. What possible physical
topology will you implement considering the following criteria? Justify your answer.
(8 marks)
1. A topology for NB-14 Lab which has low cost.
2. A topology for NB-7 lab which has secure node to node data traffic.
3. A topology for Amal-Lab which has difficult configuration and maintenance.
4. A physical design for Main Lab with slower data transfer and minimum collisions.

1. Bus topology is implemented in NB-14. Because bus 2. Ring topology is implemented in NB-7. In ring
topology is relatively inexpensive. It is a simple topology topology are devices are connected to each other in the
so it is cost effective. shape of closed loop. Each node is connected to each
other and there is no central device.

3. Star topology is implemented in Amal-lab. As all 4. Mesh topology is implemented in Main lab as each

and few data traffic issues

Q2. Identify the Structure of network which is suitable for following organization,
justify your answer: (2 marks)
a) An organization needs to provide following services

 Massive storage
 Data security
 Multiple users can be able to access organization’s provided services
simultaneously
Server-client model is suitable for organization as it fulfils the demands of
organization. In this, many clients are connected to the server and they can request
server to access the information. So, multiple users can access the information
because burden cannot slow down its functionality. Secondly, all data is stored on the
server so data can be stored in it instead that each user can save its own data. So data
is more secured. And server provides the huge storage of data.

2. ABC School is setting up the network between its different wings. There are four wings
named as SENIOR BOYS (S), JUNIOR BOYS (J), GIRLS (G), and PRE-SCHOOL (PS).

Distance between various wings is given in the following table:

Wing G to Wing S 100 Km

Wing G to Wing J 200 m

Wing G to Wing PS 400 Km

Wing S to Wing J 300 m

Wing S to Wing PS 100 Km

Wing J to Wing PS 450 m

Number of computers in each wing is as follows:

Wing G 10

Wing S 200

Wing J 100

Wing PS 50

Suggest the kind of network type [LAN, WAN, MAN] to connect computers of following
wings. Justify your answer. Also specify which inter linking device you will use for that
network type. [2.5+2.5]
1) Wing G to Wing S
MAN is used to connect wings as there is distance of 100km between these
wings. MAN is used to connect devices in a same city .And repeaters are used as
the distance is more.

2) Wing S to Wing J
LAN is used to connect these wings as distance between these wings is 100m.
LAN is used to make connections in a small geographical area. And hub is most
preferably used as there is small distance between wins.
