English Literature Project 2022-23


Class: ISC XI

English Literature Project Work in Class XI consists of assessment of Writing Skills from the Literature
syllabus covered in Class XI. Students will be required to undertake one written assignment of 1000-1500
words.

Your project should be written on any one of the following topics:


1. Analysis of a theme from any short story/ poem in the prescribed texts.
2. Analysis of a character from any short story/poem in the prescribed texts.
3. A Background study – historical, cultural, literary context and relevance of the writer/poet chosen.

The written assignment should be structured as given below:


A. The written assignment must be given a title in the form of a question.
B. The written assignment must follow the structure given below:
• Introduction:
− Explanation of the question that has been framed
− Reason for choosing the text
− Brief explanation of how you intend to interpret the chosen text and literary materials used in
the process
• Main Body – organised and well-structured treatment of the question using appropriate
subheadings.
• Conclusion – comprehensive summary of the points made in the main body.

Dates of Submission:
The outline of your task should be submitted by Wednesday 14th December 2022.
The rough draft should reach your teacher by Tuesday 21st December 2022.
It will then be sent for a plagiarism check.
The Final Project is to be submitted by Monday 9th January 2023.

Guidelines for producing the project:
The project must be typed –
− It must be in Times New Roman font, size 14 and double-spaced.
− Headings and sub-headings must be in bold.
− It must have a cover page with the title of the essay and your name.
Maintain Academic Honesty –
− The work must be original, written by the student herself/himself.
− Any ideas, quotes or other material taken from someone/somewhere must be cited in the form of
footnotes.
− There must be a bibliography at the end with a list of sources used.
− The project will be sent for a plagiarism check before it is finally assessed.
