Learning theories
The trainee observed all four practices of social work. The social work practice based on
social work profession emphasizes more on strength, capability and sources of client system
related to the comprehensive environment of client. The trainee observed that all these systems
were used according to the case. Client system, a system made from the people who request for
change client service, who are going to be beneficial from service, who make an agreement to
work with change agent. The organization fulfilled several roles such as facilitator, advocate,
educator, broker, case manager, and or mediator. The organization provided services in their
place of power and responsibility relating to all the clients, which professional responsibilities
are for clients who are facing problem, where there will be more than one client. The other
system that the trainee observed were action system where the organization called up all the HoH
and provided training related to computer stuff, mostly Microsoft Office. More than action
system, the trainee observed that this might be a social action system as the organization is
training people with HoH and deafened to fit in the society and have a job.
The trainee realized that the organization was always pushing forward and making
changes to people having disabilities. The major changes that they have made recently that the
trainee was part of was adding captions to all news and radio programs. This is an example of
target system where a group is benefited due to this change, the target being the Hard of Hearing.
The trainee believes that the organization primarily uses change agent system as it is made up of
those competent individuals who are assigned for the purpose of bringing out especially a planed
change. The organization helps to diagnose the problem, develop a need for change, provides
information to its clients, and more.
13
The organization helps its clients through micro and macro levels of intervention. As
micro level of social work is the social work provided to individuals. The organization provides a
variety of services to the client including trainings from sewing, making bracelets, and training
related to computer and Microsoft Office. The organization works on the macro level while
providing equal rights to the HoH and deafened community by changing laws and making
changes on a national level.
14
Conclusion
SHRUTI’s vision is to make an effort to ensure an inclusive society without communication
barrier where Hard of Hearing and Deafened people live a dignified life. This could be ensured
by mainstreaming Hard of Hearing and Deafened to ensure their equal participation in education,
social, cultural, economic activities and in advocating for their rights.
The three-month long experience at SHRUTI was something new for the trainee. The trainee got
to experience a proper work setting and gained knowledge about ethical responsibilities that they
should follow. Overall, the three-months at SHRUTI made trainee responsible and accountable
for their own work.
15
Recommendation
The organization is a game changer for the people it affects as it provides training as well
as paid internship to people who train there. The organization does everything well, from
trainings to the process of appealing to the government. They try to provide all the rights that
HoH deserve across Nepal. In order to do that they might need to improve their social media
marketing strategy to reach maximum number of people. The products made by the HoH
working there needs to be sold, they need a place to sell their products so Daraz app might be a
good place to start but they don’t have an idea on how this could be achieved. They have so
many big projects lined up and many events they are hosting but the tiny details are missed
which might cause inconveniences for the people attending. They conduct training in a small
room, which can only fit maximum 10 students. Moving to a new location might be more
efficient.
