There are many adj that we have in English that end with -ed or ing.
And adj that ends in -ING is used to describe the characteristic of a person, a thing or a situation.
Example: Boring, frightening, interesting
And adj that ends in -ED is used to describes:
- A feeling (a person feels)
- An emotion
- And use to describe a temporary thing
Example: bored, frightened, interested
Adjective ending in-ing
An Adjective that end in -ING is used to describes, the characteristic of a person, a thing
or situation.
Example:
The lesson was boring.
Your idea is interesting.
The game was really exciting.
Adjective ending in-ed
An Adjective that ends in -ED is used to describes a felling (or how a person feels) or an
emotion.
Example:
I was surprised at the test results
He is bored with his job.

Compare the difference:
- My boyfriend is bored. (My boyfriend feels bored)
- My boyfriend is boring. (My boyfriend is a boring person)

- I am tired right now. My flight was tiring (because it was a twelve-hour flight)
- Public toilets are usually disgusting. I am disgusted by the smell in some of them.

Note that the sentences below are to highlight the difference between the two types of
adjectives. They are NOT common to do or say because they sound repetitive.
- I was shocked by how shocking the accident was last night.
