READERS THEATER COMPETITION

GUIDELINES/MECHANICS:

1. There shall be one (1) contest piece. The contest piece shall be given one (1) week before the contest.
2. “Daisy-head Mayzie” by Dr. Seuss shall be the piece and shall be recited with vocal and other
effects in three (3) to fifteen (15) minutes. The entrance and exit shall be applied.
3. A 1-point deduction shall be made for every 30-second excess during the performance.
4. The contestants must come from the Grade 11 and 12 students of Gabi National High School, and
must be in the same level.
5. The number of participants of this competition shall be comprised with sixteen (16) readers for each
grade level.
6. Readers shall wear and use costumes, props, and others whenever appropriate to improve
performance.
7. Dangerous stunts shall be prohibited. The board of judges reserves the right to discontinue
presentations whenever posing danger or risks to the members of the team, the judges, and the
audience.
8. Violation would mean disqualification.
9. Upon submission of the results, judges’ decision shall be considered final and irrevocable.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:

 Delivery (quality of voice, fluency, pronunciation, intonation, and expression)- 40%


 Interpretation (manner in which the piece is internalized and presented)- 30%
 Stage Presence (stage poise, eye contact and audience impact)- 20%
 Costume, sound effects and props (attire relevant to the concept, sound production)-
10%
