Text from slide
• The Kite Runner is an unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely
friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father’s servant. It is a
beautifully crafted novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed.
• It is a gripping and emotional story of betrayal and redemption.
Slide 4(A);
The main characters in the book are “Amir” and “Hasan”. Amir is the son of a leader
and hero in Kabul, Afghanistan. Hasan is the son of “Ali”, who is a servant serving Amir’s
family for a few generations.
Both of them are almost same age and are best of friends as they were brought up
together in the same house. Amir is shown to be a pushover and cowardly whereas Hasan
always stands up for himself and also protects his master Amir.
Slide 5-6(A):
The main events of the story take place in late 1900s when the soviet attacked
Afghanistan. In 1989 Soviet pulls out of Afghanistan which is followed by Taliban taking
control over it.
Slide 7(H):
Text from slide
• In war, people are often forced to make great sacrifices, and the young Amir himself
commits an act of betrayal, towards his best friend Hassan no less, which will haunt
him for the rest of his life. Amir and his father are forced to flee Afghanistan for
America, and The Kite Runner becomes the story of Amir's quest for redemption –
righting the wrongs he committed all those years ago as a boy in Kabul.
Slide 8(A):
This is a fast paced story so you’ll never get bored. It introduced me to the life led by
the people during the times of war. Hosseini’s writing is simple and yet so powerful that you
will be left wanting more after each chapter
Slide 8(H):
What I liked the most is its sense of fate and justice, of good overcoming evil in the
end, despite all odds. In most books of such kind, the climax makes you feel like the
protagonist loses everything and every meaning to life. But “The Kite Runner” gives a
message of hopes in the end, for Amir as well as his family.
Slide 9(A);
In spite of such a great work, this book is debut book of the Author. When it was
released, it just popped in the marker and became NY’s bestseller the next week. This book is
the definition of the art of story telling
Side10(H):
If you don’t have time to read at least 400 pages but you still want to experience this
masterpiece, then check out the movie based on it. It’ll give you at least the same experience,
if not more.
