Course Contents:
Basics of Hydrology and Hydrological Processes (Precipitation, Abstractions, Infiltration, and Runoff,
Watersheds, Basin Characteristics, Streamflows). Hydrograph analysis (direct runoff hydrographs and unit
hydrographs); Floods and Droughts; Frequency analysis; Flood routing; Planning of Small and Large
Hydraulic structures (Weirs, barrages, dams, spillways), Reservoir planning and operation; River intakes;
Hydro-electric power classification and investigations(penstocks and anchor blocks, Turbines); Irrigation,
crop requirements and yields. Canals layout and networks, Regime channels, canal losses and water-
logging.

Assignments: Assignments given in a week is due in the following week’s last class. There is no late
submission option.
Attendance: A minimum of 80% attendance in the lectures is essential. Students not having 80 percent attendance will
not be allowed for the end-semester examination and will be awarded DX grade.
