Narrative On Administering Phil-Iri

The Dolores Elementary School conducted a seminar on administering the Phil-IRI reading assessment in English and Filipino. Teachers were reminded of the guidelines and process for testing students individually. Presenters demonstrated how to determine students' independent reading levels and move them to more advanced passages. Teachers were also instructed on identifying non-readers and recording student reading behaviors. Under the Flagship program of the Department of Education “ Every Child a Reader
Program” the Dolores Elementary School conducted a “SLAC ON THE GUIDELINES ON
THE ADMINISTRATION OF PHIL-IRI IN ENGLISH AND FILIPINO”

The program started at 8:00 am in the morning at Dolores covered court with
patriotic song via Audio Visual Presentation. It was followed by a prayer of Maam
Reggie R. Pardilla a Grade VI Teacher.
Maam Janeth S. De Lumen lead the group of teachers in the Checking of
Attendance by the use of Hastags in per Grade level.

A warm opening remark was given by the School Officers In Charge Sir John Rae G.
Buenaventura. Maam Lorie B. Roquero gave her words of encouragement to the
teachers. She highlighted that the supplies of the said activity was carried out by the
school office as source of all materials that will be use. Teachers need to get data for

the pupils performance, challenges encountered this is through the school learning
continuity plan. She also advised the teachers that to work balance in life, “ Bawal
ma exhausted, Panatilihing maging maganda since all of us are in recovery stage”.
The Statement of Purpose was given by Maam Leilani Silahis.

She reminded that the deadline will be November 29, 2022 so the report must be
submitted before that date. She added some key points to remember in the
administering the activity to the pupils to Develop the awareness of whats and whys
in Phil-Iri process. She added that this was a revised and GST was conducted for a
long period of time so there is a need for the traditional teachers to make a refresh
before conducting the Phil-Iri.
She added that teachers will crop a reading intervention enhancement program and
the last for those kids wo will be needing extra care for teachers to give extra time to
read after class.
Make a schedule on the availability of teachers and pupils with parent consent.
The opening of the Activity Proper was done by the emcee Maam Manielyn V.
Combo a Grade Two Teacher.

She called once again Maam Leilani Silahis to give the first topic and followed by
Maam Lyn Cortes both showed to the teachers the Guidelines of Administering the
Phil-Iri in Filiino and English.
Maam Leila showed pictures of a cartoon image where in a child had a hard time
going up with books as stair and carrying a backpack. Mam Sandra SJ.Raymundo
answered the meaning of the picture
she said that “Ang mga libro ay mga hakbang o balakid ng bata kung paano siya
makaka tahak sa kanyang pupuntahan sap ag babasa. May dala pa itong packback
na simbolo ng bigat habang ito ay nag babasa” Tayo guro paano tayo makaka tuong

sa bata? Mayroon tayong dapat gawin step by step upang maka taas ang bata sa
kanyang pagababasa.”
Maam Leilani added that Phil-Iri was revised last 2018. Literacy was one of the fundamental
a child can learn. “If marunong ang bata mag basa , ay mauunawaan niya nag lesson na
ibibigay ng guro” It is also a tool in measuring the childs skil in reading. It is one of the
Diagnostic Tool (GST). Maam Lei added that Individual Administration of the Phil-iri will be
conducted after GST. Other Test that will be encountered are Individual Graded Passage,
Oral, Silent and Listening.

For the Flexible ways to use Phil-Iri Maam Lei said that there is a Group Reading Level,
Individual Reading Level where in students’ independent instructional level will be measured.
To monitor growth and respond to intervention. There is a Pre-Test to determine the efficacy
conducted by school or classroom teacher.
A Post Test will also be one of the tools to determine if the intervention that you had given
was effective. Maam Lei informed the teachers that in remedial we teachers must also
describe the reading behavior of our pupils.
Teachers need to record with the use of different forms. Pupils who will be involved are
Grades 3-6 & Grades 4-6 for GST. Grades 1-2 may benchmark the best practices in
Administering the Phil-Iri of Grades 3-6. The English and Filipino Teachers can Administer
the said test. Advisers will conduct the GST.
The Resorce Speaker Maam Leilani Silahis reiterated the 3 stages
1-2 Initial reading for Q1, If mataas ang score titigil muna sa level niya pupunta doon sa
masa mataas na level. Yung mababa any siyang mag papatuloy sa next level of test.
Here comes Stage 3 for Q2& 3. Stage 4 for Quarter 4 Adminsitration of Post Test.

Second Resource Speaker was Maam Marilyn C. Francisco


She showed again the TPPK, Form B, Appendex A (Passages) with answer, with answer
sheets. We need also to motivate the pupils before allowing them to read. Last year we used
Grade 3 Passage Set A Individual. If ang bata ay Independent then lipat sa Grade IV
passage, hanapin mo if saan siya ma independent. Use Grade V Level of Passage. Try Text
Level Passage. Once Independent Level na siya pataas siya dapat.

Maam Analiza Nepomuceno explained how the child would move next to the next passage if
they got independent.
The last part is Identifying the Non-Readers. Hindi pwedeng bigyan ng Silent reading ang
Non-Readers. Teachers ang dapat magbasa.She showed the diffefent 7 Miscues.
She also showed the computation of number of words that will be divided to get the final
answer of word per minute.
After the two Resource Speakers, the emcee Madam Manielyn V.Combo called Maam Irene
Paculaba for Closing Prayer and

Sir John Jerald Ugay for the Announcement regarding LIS in school. For the teacher’s
enrollment of their section in all grades.

Crisanto Rivera was also called for the announcement. He said about the materials and the
printing of Administration of Phil-Iri will be taken care of him.

Closing Remarks was given by Maam Lyn Cortez. She reminded the teachers on how to
administer the Test with a heart.
To Keep going and always be positive in doing the Administration to look forward for the
benefit of the children.
Taking of Pictures by the Resource Speakers, TWG and Participants was applauded
gracefully in front of the crowd.

Pilipinas Kong Mahal was sung before the emcee waived goodbye to the audience.

It was a morning full of energy and excitement to administer the activity for next week.
