WORKSHEET FOR THE MONTH OF 8 APRIL – 20 APRIL 2022
WORKSHEET NO.- 1

SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS CLASS/ SEC: VIII A

TOPIC: RATIONAL NUMBERS

1. Add the following rational numbers:

(i) -5/7 and 3/7

(ii) -15/4 and 7/4

2.Verify commutativity of addition of rational numbers for each of the following pairs of
rational numbers:

(i) -11/5 and 4/7 (ii)-3/5 and -2/-15

3.The sum of the two numbers is 5/9. If one of the numbers is 1/3, find the other.

4.What number should be added to -5/11 so as to get 26/33?

5.Express each of the following as a rational number of the form p/q:

(i) -8/3 + -1/4 + -11/6 + 3/8 – 3

(ii) 6/7 + 1 + -7/9 + 19/21 + -12/7

6.Verify the property: x × (y + z) = x × y + x × z by taking x = -3/7, y = 12/13, z = -5/6

7.Verify the property: x × (y × z) = (x × y) × z by taking: x = -7/3, y = 12/5, z = 4/9

8.Find the multiplicative inverse (reciprocal) of each of the following rational numbers:

(i) 9 (ii) -7 (iii) 12/5 (iv) -7/9 (v) -3/-5 (vi) 2/3 × 9/4

(vii) -5/8 × 16/15 (viii) -2 × -3/5

9.Name the property of multiplication of rational numbers illustrated by the following

statements:

(i) -5/16 × 8/15 = 8/15 × -5/16

1
(ii) -17/5 ×9 = 9 × -17/5

(iii) 7/4 × (-8/3 + -13/12) = 7/4 × -8/3 + 7/4 × -13/12

(iv) -5/9 × (4/15 × -9/8) = (-5/9 × 4/15) × -9/8
