Tutorial 1 Class Work

The document contains a tutorial with five exercises focused on constructing various scales and shapes, including a diagonal scale for measuring distances, calculating the representative fraction of a railway map, drawing ellipses using different methods, and creating a rectangular hyperbola. Each task involves specific measurements and techniques to achieve the desired geometric representations. The exercises emphasize practical applications of geometry in mapping and design.

Tutorial – 1

1. Construct a diagonal scale of R.F. 1/4000 to show meters and long enough to measure
up to 500 metres.
2. The distance between Delhi and Agra is 200 km. In a railway map it is represented by
a line 5 cm long. Find its R.F. Draw a diagonal scale to show single km. And
maximum 600 km. Indicate on it following distances. 1) 222 km 2) 336 km 3) 459 km
4) 569 km
3. Draw an ellipse by general method, given distance of focus from directrix 65mm and
eccentricity ¾.
4. The major axis of an ellipse is 150 mm long and the minor axis is 100 mm long. Find
the foci and draw the ellipse by 'arcs of circles' method. Draw a tangent to the ellipse
at a point on it 25 mm above the major axis.
5. A point P is 30 mm and 50 mm respectively from two straight lines which are at right
angles to each other. Draw a rectangular hyperbola from P within 10 mm distance
from each line.
