Grade 8 Physics: Light and Color

This document contains a daily lesson log for an 8th grade physics lesson on the colors of light. The objectives are for students to describe how refraction occurs, explain the effect of dispersion, and understand how colors of light are arranged. The lesson content covers refraction, dispersion, the composition of white light, and the color spectrum ROYGBIV. Procedures include reviewing concepts, examples like rainbows, discussion, an activity worksheet, and evaluating learning. The teacher found the lesson interesting for students and plans to reflect on teaching strategies and address difficulties.

Daily Lesson Log in Science

Lesson Plan No. Quarter: 1

Grade Level/Section: Grade 8 Day: 5
Learning Area: Physics
Date: September 23,2022

I. OBJECTIVES:
A. Content Standards:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of some properties and characteristics of
visible light.
B. Performance Standards:
The Learners shall be able to discuss phenomena such as blue sky, rainbow, and red
sunset using concept of wavelength and frequency of visible light.
C. Learning Competencies:
S8FE-If-28
Specific Objectives:
Given the necessary materials, 80% of the students should be able to:
a. Describe how refraction of light occurs.
b. Explain the effect of dispersion of light.
c. Understand how the colors of light are arranged.
II. CONTENT
Colors of Light
III. LEARNING RESOURCE
A. References
1. Grade 8 Science Learner’s Module. p.94-111
B. Other Learning Materials
Cartolina – lecture notes / Activity worksheet
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
What is an echo?
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
Today we will be studying the colors of light.
C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson
The rainbow is a natural phenomenon that is caused by the dispersion of water droplets
resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills
Refraction of Light
● The bending of light when it travels from one medium to another of different optical
densities
● May result in a display of colors of light when it passes through materials that have
varied refractive indices.
Dispersion of light
● The separation of colors from white light as observed in a prism
White light
● composed of different colors of varying frequencies and wavelengths
Colors of light
● hierarchically arranged as ROYGBIV according to frequency and energy of the
colors of light
● Red / Orange / Yellow / Green / Blue / Indigo / Violet
● Red – has the lowest frequency and energy
● Violet – has the highest frequency and energy
E. Developing mastery
Students will do the activity worksheet individually.
F. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living
Light enable us to perform our daily tasks even at nighttime.
G. Making generalizations and abstraction about the lesson.
How does refraction of light occurs?
What happens when light is refracted?
What is dispersion of light?
What are the colors of light?
How are the colors of light arranged?
H. Evaluating Learning
Directions: The results of the activity will be used as data for evaluation

I. Additional activities for application or remediation

V. REMARKS
The students find the lesson very interesting.
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation
CREDIBILIT OBEDIENCE PATIENCE FRUGALITY JUSTICE
Y

=>80%

<80%

B. No. of learners who require additional activities for remediation who scored below 80%

C. Did the lessons work? No. of learners who catch up with the lesson

D. No. of learners who continue to require remediation

E. Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did these work?

F. What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or supervisor can help me solve?

G. What innovation or localized materials did I used/discover which I wish to share with other
teachers?
