Semi Detailed Lesson Plan Matter

The lesson plan outlines a science lesson on states of matter. The objectives are for students to define matter, identify the three phases of matter (solid, liquid, gas), and understand the importance of states of matter in daily life. The lesson will use a PowerPoint presentation, video clip, and pictures to discuss how matter occupies space and has mass in three states - solids have a definite shape and volume, liquids have a definite volume but no shape, and gases have no definite shape or volume. Students will summarize that matter is anything that has mass and takes up space, and the key states are solids, liquids, and gases.

SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN N SCIENCE 8

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
A. Define what is matter and identify its three phases;
B. Draw the three phases of matter
C. Reflect the importance of the states of matter in our daily lives.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
A. Topic: States of Matter
B. References: Exploring Life Through Science, pp. 181-184
C. Materials: Power point presentation, video clip, laptop, projector, pictures
D. Idea/Concept: Matter is anything that occupy space and has mass. It has
three states of matter: solid, liquid and gas.
E. Process Skills: Defining, differentiating, observing and critical thinking and
reflecting.
F. Value Integration: To understand the importance states of matter and relate it
to the real life
III. PROCEDURE:
A. Daily Routine
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of Attendance
d. Recalling the previous lesson
B. Motivation
Title of the Activity: What’s the Matter?
Materials: Projector, pictures
Instructions: I will show some pictures by the use of the projector. The pictures
are all about the things we see in our surroundings. The students will then
answer it.
C. Lesson Proper
To begin the lesson, the teacher will ask the students if they have background
knowledge or idea about the topic they will be tackling for today. The teacher will
then tackle or proceed to the lessons by giving the students the information about
the states of matter. As he discussed the lessons, he will then ask the students
some questions regarding the topic.
D. Summary of Key Points
Matter is anything that mass and occupies space. Matter may either be living or
nonliving. It can be detected using senses – sight (color, dull, shiny), hearing
(loud, soft, with echo, no sound), taste (sweet, sour, bitter), touch (smooth, hard,
soft), and smell (musky, pungent, floral, peppermint). Matter is what the world
made of.
Solids – are composed of tightly pack particles and vibrate in place. It has
definite shape, volume and has high density.

Liquids – are composed of tiny vibrating particles of matter, such as atoms, held
together when it is put to a container so it has no definite shape. It has definite
volume and medium density.

Gas – is a state of matter that has no fixed volume and shape. Gases have lower
density than other states of matter.

IV. EVALUATION
Direction: In ½ crosswise. Answer the following:
1. In your own word, what is matter?
2. Give the three states of matter
3. Give at least five examples of each states of matter
V. ASSIGNMENT
Make some research about properties of matter. Write it in yellow paper.
