Special Topics in English Literature and Culture

Literature and Gender Violence – Written Assignment (Draft + Essay)

Topic – you can freely choose the topic of the final paper, taking into consideration that
the content must refer to aspects dealt with in the four units of the course.
Word Count – 2000-4000 words.

STRUCTURE OF THE ESSAY

Title – according to your choice of work.

Abstract: 150/250 words – in the abstract you explain exactly what you are going to look at
within your assignment making reference to the sources that you will search and use.

(3 to 6 keywords – summarise the main elements within you assignment)

Introduction: around a page long (2 to 4 paragraphs) in which you state the state of the
question.

Body: between 3 and 5 pages long, in which you develop your main arguments according to the
bibliography found and your own analysis of your chosen work in relation to the issues of
gender/symbolic violence it represents.

Conclusion: around a page long, in which you state the conclusions that derive from your main
arguments within the assignment.

Works cited: Include only those references you have used following the instruction in “Guia
Presentació Treballs DAL”.

DEADLINES

Part 1 Draft – abstract and key words and some references: 22th March in Activitats (10%)

Part 2 – final essay: 24th May in Activitats (20%)
