Architectural Design Cost Analysis

The document outlines tasks for a performance project on designing a house blueprint and calculating material and construction costs. It provides floor plans and lists of materials and furniture. Tasks include creating blueprints, writing expressions to calculate material costs, determining the cost of a contractor, calculating individual material costs, and finding the total project cost. The total cost of materials was $43,617, the contractor cost $158,415, and the total project cost was $202,032, leaving $147,968 remaining from the $350,000 budget.

Name: Micaela Siredey Date: 17/04/20 Section: B

Equations Performance Task: Georgi Architectural Design

Task #1: Blueprints (15 Points)

Remember the First Floor is 1,000 square feet and the Second Floor is 500 square feet. Use this floor plan
to place necessary materials and furniture in the house from the list above. Cut and paste (or hand draw
like I did) the given templates of furniture to your floor plan to create a blueprint. Draw in the lights,
outlets, and light switches where needed.

First Floor Second Floor

Task #2: Materials List (25 Points)

Write expressions to represent reasonable costs for the following materials (I have created a template in
Google Sheets you are free to use as well, just make a copy of it and add to it as needed). I have done
the wall structure part as an example:

Materials Expression

Wall/Structure $20e

Flooring (both levels) $3.97h+$2.27c

Windows $126w

Doors $58d

Lighting $61.33i+$39.97l+$19.98p

Outlets $0.39u+0.39a

Light Switches $0.54i+$0.39r

Sinks $42k+$67.45t

Toilets $98t

Showers/Tubs $421o+$437.69z

Staircase $500a

Couch $339.99c

TV and Stand $477.99n+$69.99m

Dining Table and Chairs $569.95n

Table and Chairs $309.09h

Stove $469.99f

Refrigerator $752.49r

Queen Bed $174.99q+$184.99b

Twin Bed $84.99s+$139.99d

Task #3: Cost of Contractor (25 Points)

The contractor worked for $45 per hour after a $375 deposit (automatic payment before any work can
begin). You will work 40 hours weeks for 439 days. Using a variable with a coefficient and constant,
represent the cost of the contractor for this job by writing an equation. Figure the final amount they will
pay the contractor at the end of the build.
Equation Work Solving Equation
=375+(40h)*45 (h=439/5=87.8)
375+(40*87.8)*45
375+3512*45
3512*45 = 158040
375+(40h)*45 375+158040
=158415
Task #4: Cost of Materials (25 Points)

Using your algebraic expressions from task #2, decide the cost of each of the items listed in the table
below (I have created a template in Google Sheets you are free to use as well, just make a copy of it and
add to it as needed). I have done the wall structure part as an example:

Materials Expression (from Task Amount Needed

Task #5: Figure the total cost of the house and contractor (20 Points)
Answer the following questions using your calculations from tasks 3 and 4. Please show all your work
(original expression and then the total).

1. How much money was spent on the materials for the house?
$43,617

2. How much money was spent on the contractor?

$158,415
3. How much money was spent in total?
$202,032
4. How much money was left over from the $350,000 budget?
