Research proposal Problem identification and definition of phenomena Identification of the problem:
Nursing students are confronting many educational problems. These problems are affecting their education. We want to explore different kinds of educational problems; they are facing during their educational period. Recent results of BScN students shows that one passed with 80%, seven passed between 70-80%, fifteen passed between 60-70%, sixteen passed between 50-60% and ten students have below 50%. Names and academic year of students is confidential. This result indicates that average percentage of students is 56%. It means that students are not paying attention to their studies and they have some educational problems that need to explore. Background information on the problem:
There are many studies that explore the problems of nursing students but no researches have conduct on problems of BScN students of Dow University. So we want to know that what are the existing problems of nursing students? Conceptual definition:
Problem: A problem is an obstacle which makes it difficult to achieve a desire goal, objective or purpose. It refers to a situation, condition or issue that is yet unresolved. Operational definition:
The problems of nursing students are various but our focus will be on educational area and we want to know their educational problems. These problems may be institutional, family, interpersonal and intrapersonal.
Research proposal Justification of problem or phenomena This problem is necessary to address because it has serious consequences. These consequences not only affect the students education and skills but it also affects the patients. If students do not studied well and not learn their skills properly so they can not give holistic care to the patients. It is suggested by McPherson, K. (2001) that Educating healthcare professionals is a key issue in the provision of quality healthcare services. Purpose of study To explore the problems of BScN students of Dow University. Research question What are the educational problems faced by BScN nursing students of Dow University? Review of the literature The literature contains a number of studies addressing the educational problems of
nursing students. Seyedfatemi, Tafreshi and Hagani (2007) found that nursing students in Iran have variety of interpersonal and environmental stressor. These stressors include being finding new friend, new responsibilities, increased class workload, being placed in unfamiliar situation and working with people they did not know. Wang (2008) found that Taiwanese nursing students studying in Australia are confronting stressors of adapting to the host country, struggling with different learning styles, negotiating cultural barriers, and acquiring competency in the English language during their learning experience. Yen and Steven (2004) said that, Asian international students in the United States experience poor English speaking skill is a major stressor. The findings of their study suggest that when international students difficulties communicating in English are coupled with an atmosphere of racially motivated hostility or indifference toward people from other
Research proposal nations, the situation may become exceedingly painful for them. Charlie (2007) found that apart from language issue international students also have with the nature of
interactions between students and teaching staff, students approaches to learning, and the nature of interactions between students and students. Methods Study design: Phenomenological study Study participants: Twenty BScN students of Dow University (10 focus group discussion and 10 face to face interviews) Instruments:

If yes so how it affects to your studies? 6. How do you meet your university expenses? 7. How can you cope with your educational problems at Dow University? 8. How do you think these problems can be solved? (The first two questions are general questions which will use as ice breakers to stimulate discussion and put participants at ease encouraging them to interact in a normal manner with the facilitator)
Research proposal Data collection period and sampling: One month (1 week sampling and 1 week data collection) and sampling method is Convenience. Inclusion criteria: 1. Nursing students of Dow University 2. Studying period between 2009-2010 Exclusion criteria: 1. Others students like pharmacy, medical collage and medical technology students of Dow University will not be the participant of this study. Data analysis and interpretation: Themes will be generated at the base of data collection. Ethical consideration A consent form is developed and attach with each questionnaire. Anonymity and
confidentiality will assure and then ask permission to participate in the study. We will also take the permission from project director of ION to conduct the research within the premises of DUHS (ION).
