Understanding Ecological Relationships

This lesson plan aims to teach students about ecological relationships through various classroom activities. The lesson begins with an introduction and review of ecosystems. Students then participate in a "Science Station" activity with four stations focusing on different ecological relationships like mutualism, parasitism, and commensalism. Each station has a task for students to identify the relationship. The lesson concludes by having students identify relationship types in pictures and drawings an ecosystem drawing as an assignment. The overarching goal is for students to understand the different ecological relationships in the environment.

Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
a. identify the different ecological relationship in our ecosystem;
b. involve in different task about the ecological relationship; and
c. collaborate with other students in the classroom activities.

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Ecological Relationship

b. References: Science and Health VI

c. Materials: television, answer sheets, pictures

Prayer
Okay class, stand up. Henry, please Okay classmates, are you ready to pray.

Give us this day our daily bread; and
forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive
those who trespass against us; and lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from

Checking of Attendance
Students, who is absent today? No No one is absent today, teacher.

B. Review
Before we proceed to our new lesson, Our topic is about food chain.
let us first have a recap. What is our
lesson yesterday? What is it about?

C. Motivation
There is a forest in front of you but I Different organisms like plants and
think there are missing something. animals are missing.
What do you think it is? In a forest
there should be?

Very good! Different organism, there

should be different kind of animals
and plants. Where we can find them?

Look under your armchair, i think (The students will look under their chairs
they are all hiding there? and will found different animals.)

Look, you find them. Now put them (the students will fall in line and post the
in the place they should be in a forest. animals in the forest.)

D. Engagement
Now that the animals and other Yes, we are!

have now an ecosystem. Do you want
to hear a song about the ecosystem?

We have problem students; do you Symbiosis is a relationship between two

classes of symbiosis:

Commensalism. One organism benefits

and the other is neither harmed nor
helped.
Mutualism. Both organisms benefit. An
obligate mutualist cannot survive without
its partner; a facultative mutualist can
survive on its own.
Parasitism. One organism (the parasite)
benefits and the other (the host) is
harmed.

E. Exploration
Let us have the Science Station. We
will have series of station that focuses
on the different ecological
relationship in our ecosystem.

Here are the instructions, listen

carefully.
There are four stations, in every
station you need to accomplish
different task. At the end of each
station you are expected to identify
the ecological relationship.

A. Station 1 (Watch and Learn)  Assign your group manager,

disciplinarian and timer.
 You have 5 minutes to
accomplish this task.
 Watch the video about the
caterpillar and the wasp.
 Answer the following question.

B. Station 2 (Let's Read)  Assign your group manager,

. disciplinarian and timer.
 You have 5 minutes to
accomplish this task.
 The manager will read the
information sheet that tells about
the one kind of ecological
relationship.
 Answer the following question
C. Station 3 (Artist's Station)
 Assign your group manager,
disciplinarian and timer.
 You have 5 minutes to
accomplish this task.
 You need to use your artistic
hands to color the relationship
that have one organism benefit
and the other is harmed.
 Answer the following question.

D. Station 4 ( Picture Analysis)  Assign your group manager,

disciplinarian and timer.
 You have 5 minutes to
accomplish this task.
 Catch one pair of organism that
both benefit from each other.
 Answer the following question

F. Explanation
Group 1 please tells us about your (Each group will tell their experiences

station.

Very good! Group 2?

Well done Group 2. How about our

group 3?

Excellent. Our last group?

Good job! You did a great job in

every station.

Ow, look! I have here a mystery tv.

Let see how this thing works.

There are four different colored

flaglets for each pair. Blue represents
mutualism, green for parasitism,
yellow stands for commensalism and
red is predation.
There are pictures of different
relationship, can you tells me what
ecological relationship?

You ready?

G. Elaboration
Claire please stands up. Can you do Yes, teacher.
me a favor? I lost my special box. It (The student will search for the box)
is green in color with linings of gold.
It has a sign of question mark in the
center of it. Can you look for it?

You found my box! Please open it. What are the different ecological

Students please read the message in
the scroll.

So what are the different ecological

relationships in our environment?

H. Evaluation
Direction: Identify what ecological relationship does the picture shows. Write your answer in
the space provided
