Insert your introduction
The introduction needs to clear & concise; identifies the movie title including the character;
and identifies the mental health disorder
The Writing Centre at NorQuest Library is a terrific resource if you struggle with what
information to include.
Introductions are not easy.
DSM 5 Criteria and Character Appearance/Behavior
Need to choose three different criteria from the DSM 5 and then apply three different
examples from the film, one example per DSM 5 criteria.
Each example must align with the DSM 5 criteria and be fully described. Example: You need to
state the type of hallucination or delusion and provide a specific example from the film.
You will find the DSM 5 criteria is in your NFDN 2007 textbook.
Make sure to list the DSM 5 criteria first, followed by the example from the film that supports
the chosen criteria. Both require an in-text citation.
There should be three paragraphs under this heading: One for each DSM 5 criteria and
associated example
2
The example is based on Joe diagnosed with schizophrenia
Example:
One criteria from the DSM 5 for schizophrenia is “two or more of the following, each present
for a significant portion of time during a 1 –month period (or less if successfully treated). At
least one of the must be hallucinations” (Austin, Kunyk, Peternelj-Taylor and Boyd, 2019, p.
406). In the film, Joe is experiencing auditory hallucinations. He is hearing a voice that no one
else can hear. This voice is telling him not to eat his food because it is poisoned (Grazer &
Howard, 2001, [Link]).
Nursing Interventions from a Research Article(s)
Identify three nursing interventions that support the mental health disorder of the main character. You
need to provide support for each intervention from a research article(s). You will probably need to use
three research articles.
Make sure to list the nursing intervention first, followed by a brief example from the film that
supports the use of the intervention and then the literature support.
There should be three paragraphs under this heading: One for each intervention.
Your choice of research article(s) is important. You want to find a journal article specific to the
mental health disorder of the main character in the film. You will also need to adapt the
intervention, so that it is a nursing intervention.
3
The example is based on Joe diagnosed with schizophrenia
Example:
A nurse would encourage the consistent use of an antipsychotic medication. This is an
appropriate choice for a nursing intervention as Joe refused to take his prescribed antipsychotic
medication resulting in auditory hallucinations and inappropriate behavior at work. This led to
his dismissal at work and subsequent homelessness. (Grazer & Howard, 2001, [Link]). Non-
compliance of antipsychotic medication is the primary reason patients with schizophrenia
experience psychotic features and are unable to maintain work responsibilities. This leads to
homelessness. (Tija, Givens, & Shea, 2005)
Example:
A nurse would educate the client on the use of cognitive behavioral therapy. Then provide a
brief example from the film that supports your decision to use CBT. Then insert support from
the literature.
Example:
A nurse would encourage the client and family to attend family psychoeducation. Then provide
a brief example from the film that supports your decision to encourage family psychoeducation.
Then insert support from the literature.

Nursing Interventions Using the NFDN 2007 textbook
Describe one example of the character’s appearance or behaviour and apply a nursing intervention that
supports the character’s mental health disorder.
The nursing intervention, as well as the literature support for this intervention must come from your
NFDN 2007 textbook.
This should be one paragraph in length
The example is based on Joe diagnosed with schizophrenia
Example:
An appropriate nursing intervention is promoting patient safety. Joe has demonstrated “impaired social
interaction” (Austin, Kunyk, Peternelj-Taylor and Boyd, 2019, p. 442). He is experiencing paranoid
delusions, believing his brother wants to kill him. He then punches his brother in the face. “The patient
who is hallucinating needs to be protected. This protection may include increased staff monitoring and if
necessary, a safer environment in a secluded area. (Austin et al., 2019, p. 442)
Self- Reflection
You need to identify specifically how the resources used in this assignment will help you better
understand the mental health disorder. This is the one area of the paper where you may not have an in-
text citation --- as it is your thoughts and ideas.
Do not use general statements or buzz words. Provide an example of how the resources you
choose will help you better understand the mental health disorder
Should be one paragraph in length
5
Research of Resources
Identify three community resources from the community or surrounding area you live that would
support the mental health of the character in the movie.
Include the name of the community resource, address, phone number, an internet link (if it has one).
Explain what each resource has to offer in services that may improve your character’s mental health
status or coping ability.
You will also need to examine each resource from a social justice perspective and include information
regarding access for the public. Example: Are services free to all, a set population or clientele or is there
a fee or need for referral, or can clients self-refer?
There should have three paragraphs under this heading. One for each community resource. Make sure
to address all the requirements for each community resource before moving to the next paragraph and
the next community resource.
Insert Conclusion
Needs to be clear and concise
You need to summarize the mental health disorder
Do not insert any information not covered in the body of the paper. No new information.
Should be one paragraph in length

In-Text Citations
You will be using in text citations for the majority of the paper. You will be using information
primarily from the film, research article(s) and your NFDN 2007 textbook. The section on ‘Self-
Reflection’ is the only area in the paper when you will be utilizing your own thoughts and
therefore do not require an in-text citation.
In addition, you must check the accuracy of the APA. You are responsible to understand and
apply APA correctly. If you have any questions, the staff at the Writing Centre at NorQuest
College are able to assist.
Inaccurate use of in-text citations or using thoughts and ideas which are not your own, may
result in being cited for plagiarism. This is Academic Misconduct.
