PROPOSED : PROPOSED WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT

CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS

1.0 GENERAL CONDITIONS

1.01 This section is prepared in a manner that is concise to simplify the elaborateness of the
Specification although this should be coordinated and correlated to each corresponding
elaborated section of the Specification.
1.02 All works and materials shall conform to the Plans and Specifications furnished by the
Architect and with the laws and regulations of the Local and National Authorities
concerned in the place of construction.
1.03 This specification is intended to cooperate with the Plans and each to form a part
thereof. In case of doubt or discrepancy in the figures or drawings, they shall be
brought to the attention of the Architect for clarification and final decision.
1.04 The Contractor shall be responsible in checking all items and units as indicated on the
Plans and Specifications and in the supply and installation of all the requirements called
for.
1.05 Substitution of Materials shall be accepted if the Material specified will not be available
in time to complete the work and if the substituted materials are proven to be equal.

2.0 SITE WORKS

2.01 The building site shall be leveled according to the plans and cleared of rubbish, roots
and other perishable and objectionable matters to a suitable sub-grade.

2.02 All such unsuitable materials shall be removed from the building site and spread
uniformly over the areas adjacent the proposed building, or otherwise disposed off as
may be directed by the Architect or the Engineer in charge of the construction.

2.03 The contractor shall make the necessary temporary facilities such as the bodega and
comfort room.  This section also includes temporary connections of electrical and
plumbing utilities.

2.04 Demolition of existing structure (if there is any).

3.0 EXCAVATION

3.01 All excavations shall be made to grade indicated in the drawings, where the building site
is covered with any kind of fill, the excavation for mat foundation should be made
deeper until the stratum for safe bearing capacity of the soil reached.

3.02 Whenever water is encountered in the excavation process, it shall be removed by bailing
or pumping, care being taken that the surrounding soil particles are not disturbed or
removed.

4.0 BACKFILLING

4.01 After the concrete for underground tank walls reached the curing period to withstand
pressure resulting from fills, the materials removed from excavations shall be used for
backfills around them.

4.02 Backfills shall be placed in layers not exceeding 150mm in thickness, and each layer shall
be thoroughly compacted wetting, tamping and rolling.

5.0 CONCRETE WORKS

5.01 All concrete shall be mixed thoroughly until there is a uniform distribution of the cement
and aggregates, and should be deposited as nearly as practicable in its final position,
care being taken to avoid segregation of the aggregates.

5.02 Water to be used for mixing concrete shall be clean and free from injurious amount of
oil, acids, alkalis, salts, and other organic materials.
5.03 All reinforced concrete columns, beams, and slabs shall be according to design as shown
on plan.
5.04 Materials, Portland cement ASTM C 150, Type I, Sand ASTM C 897

6.0 PROPORTIONING OF CONCRETE

6.01 All concrete works shall be done in accordance with the standard specifications for plain
and reinforced concrete as adopted by the Government.  Cement to be used shall be
HOLCIM Portland Cement or equivalent.

6.02 The following proportions of concrete mixtures shall be used for the various parts of the
building:
Columns and Footings – Class A (1:2:4)

Wall Footings – Class A(1:2:4)
Reinf. Concrete Beams and Slabs – Class A(1:2:4)
Slab on Fill – Class B(1:2 1/2:5)

6.03 The fine aggregate for concrete shall consist of natural sand, or of inert materials with
similar characteristics, having clean, hard and durable grains, free from organic matter
or loam.

6.04 The coarse aggregate for concrete shall consist of crushed rock of durable and strong
qualities or clean and hard gravel.  Size of the coarse aggregate shall vary from 20mm to
40mm (3/4” to 1-1/2”)

7.0 FORMS AND SCAFFOLDINGS

7.01 All forms for concrete shall be properly braced or connected together so as to maintain
the correct position and shapes of the concrete members.  Forms shall be constructed
sufficiently tight to prevent bulging and seepage of water.

7.02 Forms shall not be removed until the concrete has attained sufficient strength to
support its own weight and any loads that may be placed on it.

7.03 Scaffoldings must be properly braced to prevent accidents.  Scaffolding materials may
be lumber or steel.

8.0 STEEL REINFORCING BARS

8.01 All steel reinforcing bars to be used in the construction shall consist of round deformed
bars with lugs, projection on their sides to provide a greater bond between the concrete
and the steel.  Sizes range is 12mm dia., 16mm dia., 20mm dia and 25mm.

8.02 All steel reinforcing bars shall be accurately placed and secured against displacement by
tying them together at each bar intersection with Gauge #16 galvanized iron wire.

8.03 The steel reinforcing bars indicated for footings, columns, slabs, beams, girders and
other concrete members shall all conform to the number, size and spacing as indicated
in the drawings or schedule of steel reinforcements.

9.0 MASONRY

9.01 Concrete hollow blocks to be used in this project shall be 5 inches thick.

9.02 The concrete hollow block walls shall be laid, and the cells filled with cement mortar
consisting of 1 part Portland cement and 3 parts sand by volume.  They shall be

reinforced with round deformed bars, 10mm diameter, spaced not more than 1.20
meters on center, both ways.

10.0 FLOOR AND WALL FINISHES

10.01 Floor and walls must be applied with waterproofing.

11.0 PLUMBING

11.01 Pipes and Fittings:


a. Pipes and Fittings: Polyvinyl Chloride Pipe (PVC) series 600 by Neltex, Atlanta,
Moldex or approved equal.
11.02 Valves:
a. Up to 50mm: Bronze ASTM B62, 860-kpa class, threaded end.
b. 65mm and bigger: all iron, bronze fitted 860-kpa class, threaded end.

11.03 Fitting Sealant:


a. PVC fittings: PVC Compound
b. GI fittings: Teflon Tape

11.04 Alternate Materials:


Use of any materials not specified in these specifications may be allowed provided such
alternate has been approved by the Architect and Engineer and provided further that
the test, if required, shall be done by an approved agency in accordance with generally
accepted standard.

11.05 Identification of Materials


Each length of pipe, fittings, traps, fixtures, and device used in the plumbing system shall
have cast, stamped or indelibly marked on it the manufacturer’s trademark or name,
the weight, type and class or product when so required by the standards mentioned
above.

11.06 Workmanship
The work throughout shall be executed in the best and most thorough manner to the
satisfaction of the Architect and Engineer, who will jointly interpret the meaning of the
Drawings and Specifications and shall have power to reject any work and materials
which in their judgement, are not in full accordance therewith.
The Contractor shall assume unit responsibly and provide the services of the qualified
Engineer to supervise the complete installation of equipment and systems and who shall
be available for conducting the final acceptance test.

11.07 Installation
a. Excavating, Backfilling and Pipe Laying
(1) Excavating

- Trenches for all underground pipeline shall be excavated to the
required depths and grades.
- Bell holes shall be provided so that the pipe will rest on well
tamped solid ground for its entire length.
- Where rock is encountered, excavation shall extend to a depth of
six inches below the pipe bottom, and before the pipe is laid, the
space between the bottom of pipe shall be filled with approved
filling materials.

(2) Pipe Laying


- Pipe in trenches shall be laid true to line and grade on a stable and
suitably prepared foundation, each section of the pipe being
bedded and bottom of the trench shaped to fit the lowest
quadrant of the pipe circumference.

(3) Backfilling
- After pipe lines have been tested, inspected and approved by the
Architect and prior to backfilling, all forms and bracing shall be
removed and the excavation shall be cleaned from trash and
debris.
- Materials from backfilling shall consist of approved materials and
shall be free from debris and rocks.
- Backfill shall be placed in horizontal layers, properly moistened
and compacted to an optimum density that will prevent excessive
settlement and shrinkage.

12.0 ELECTRICAL

12.01 All Electrical Works shall conform to the latest edition of the Philippine Electrical Code,
to the rules and regulations of Local and National Authorities and the requirements of
the Local Utility Company concerned.

12.02 Specifications of Materials:

Materials to be used shall conform to the standards and Specifications have been
established for the particular type of material or equipment in question.

Materials shall be hereunder specified:


a. Intermediate Metal Conduits (IMC) for Service Entrance Conduit and Metering
Conduit
b. PVC Pipes for all Feeders, Branch Circuit and Auxiliary System
c. Flexible Conduit Pipes: PVC corrugated flexible electrical conduit system as
manufactured by Neltex, Atlanta or approved equal.
d. Wires and Cables: Use Philflex , Phelps Dodge or approved equal.

e. Circuit Breakers: as manufactured and distributed by GE Philippines, Inc. or
approved equal
f. Panel Boards, Cabinets and Safety Switches: Locally manufactured by Switchgear
Philippines, Inc. or approved equal
g. Wiring Devices: Royu and approved equal
