CONCEPT

Clenched Fists- The different sizes of fists symbolize the diverse


people involved in the freedom struggles that protested against the
LOCATION
British rule. People from all communities gathered together with unity
and fought for their rights. So this represents a salute to express unity, ABOUT SITE
strength and resistance. Augutus Kranti Maidan, Mumbai
Chain- It represents the unfair treatment and injustices brought upon On 8 August 1942, more than 40,000 people had gathered at
Indians by the British. the Maidan to hear Gandhi’s speech, he made the call for the British to
quit India. His words—Do or Die. We shall either free India or die in
the attempt—resounded across the country.

Design process August Kranti Maidan is located in Tardeo, Mumbai


First an important event in the Indian Independence struggle was noted
that is the Quit India Movement. Then site was chosen keeping in mind
how it had relevance to Independence. Augutus Kranti Maidan was
where Gandhi ji started the Quit India movement so it had a huge
impact on the freedom struggle

Then the installation was designed keeping in mind the representation


of people's struggle. Basic structure of raised clenched fists surrounded
by chains and shackles was envisioned. Then the material was decided
keeping in mind concept of Sarvodaya.

MATERIAL
Mainly waste and recyclable materials have been used to represent the
philosophy of Mahatama Gandhi. He stated, "There is enough for
everybody's need and not for anybody's greed". Thus reusing and
recycling of material has been used in our installation.
Clenched Fists- Molded plastic to give flexibility, bubble wrap to give
volume
Chains- Old rusty metal chain used at construction sites
