Thesis Title

This study aimed to determine the importance of involvement in extracurricular activities as revealed by Grade VI pupils of Gulang-Gulang Elementary School. It found that the most common extracurricular activities pupils engaged in were school camps and sports. The study also found that pupils strongly agreed that extracurricular activities help develop their emotions by building self-confidence and a positive outlook. Pupils also strongly agreed that extracurricular activities benefit their physical well-being by keeping them healthy and physically fit. Finally, pupils strongly agreed that extracurricular activities enhance their social development by teaching good sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership skills.

ABSTRACT

The main purpose of the study was to determine the

Importance of Involvement in Extracurricular Activities as Revealed by

Grade VI Pupils of Gulang-Gulang Elementary School. It sought to

describe the demographic profile of respondents and their different

extra-curricular activities they engaged. Lastly, to identify the

importance of extra-curricular activities on the emotional, physical, and

social well-being of the pupils.

This involved 45 females and 25 males as respondents. All

the data and information about the study were obtained through

descriptive type of research with survey questionnaire as the main

instrument used for data collection.

Findings show that the different extra-curricular activities

pupils engaged in were school camp and sports, declamation and lyre

band got the lowest number of responses.

In terms of importance on emtions, pupils strongly agreed

that joining extra-curricular activities enable them to develop their

strengths and weaknesses, develop self-trust and self-satisfaction,

gain self- confidence, enjoy relationship and reach their potentials and

develop positive outlook in life.

In terms of physical aspect, most of the pupils strongly

agreed with the response, joining extra-curricular make me develop

significantly higher physical self-esteem, healthy, develop my physical

attributes in doing activities, improve overall well-being and physically

fit.

As to social aspect of the pupils, the pupils strongly agreed

that joining extra-curricular activities makes them learn the value of

good sportsmanship and a better person through experiencing

competition, teamwork and cooperation, understand other person’s

personality and prepared in leadership.
