Activity 1

1. Why do we need to study Gender and society? Explain. (150 words)

We need to study gender and society because it allows people in various social situations
to resolve gender-related issues by offering a shared knowledge of gender identity and
connections. It investigates how men and women are similar and how they differ. A
gender study allows for a better knowledge of each gender's demands as well as the
distinct contributions each gender contributes to society.

We may learn about how men and women interact with others in society and what their
roles are by studying gender roles. Gender role refers to the collection of social and
behavioral norms that are considered proper for people of a particular sex.

Gender and society studies are important because they help us understand our own
identities of others around us. Gender and society is the study of how gender is
established, maintained, and modified in society.

A gender study investigates the root causes of these inequalities and seeks practical
solutions and safety precautions. It raises awareness of the worth of everyone, regardless
of gender. Gender studies, among other things, the home and family, the workplace,
religious groups, education, government, and the media and Gender studies research also
looks into the nature of gender, assisting society and people in developing healthy
gender-related expectations and identity models.

A gender study fosters a comprehensive awareness of prevalent cultural beliefs that may
be detrimental to a specific group of people or persons who do not match specific criteria
and this is performed by investigating discourses concerning race, ethnicity, class and
status, sexuality, outward appearance, age, and religion.
