Congratulations with a fist bump is it okay?

As the school is in celebrating graduation activities, the Department of Education released a DepEd
memorandum no. 043 s, 2022 in the conduct of EOSY Rites, in the light of public health emergency, which
includes handshakes or any other forms of physical contact is discouraged.
It is customary for us, especially for Filipinos to offer handshakes to congratulate someone for their success,
victories, and another achievement in life.
Handshake’s origin is that it begins as a gesture of peace. In wartime, grasping hands in hands and offering a
handshake proved to you were not holding a weapon, and you are offering a friendship. Much more, they
signify a greeting, but they also help inspire feelings of trust and intimacy.
As a result of the global coronavirus pandemic, many people feel hesitant about shaking hands. Experts
suggest that if you have been vaccinated against COVID-19, shaking hands is generally considered safe.
But I have observed that a number of DepEd personnel are still making physical contact in alternative ways of
doing a fist bump.
The handshake is an important way that many people communicate nonverbally. It’s a standard gesture when
we say hello, goodbye, and make an agreement. We’ve been doing it for millennia. But reports claimed that
handshakes are often the culprit of spreading germs.
The fist bump is an excellent way to greet someone if you're feared of spreading germs and don't like
handshaking. While fist-bumping in the past has been used in more informal situations, it's now used even in a
business setting as an alternative to the handshake.
Even though the fist bump is a healthier greeting than the handshake, could it ever really become the new
norm?
I first acknowledge fist bumps in most of the athletes in USA or noticed athletes greeting one another on the
field. The fist bump is becoming a go-to way of saying hello, while the handshake is getting the heave-ho. but
for good etiquette, I wonder if fist-bumping can actually replace the handshake as king of the formal greeting.
In a barangay where conflict between two people has been settled, both parties have to offer their handshake
a sign they come to an agreement and conflict is no more. Can you offer your fist bump to an agreement?
"You can't shake hands with a clenched fist." So said Indira Gandhi during negotiations over a border dispute
in the early 1970s.
Of course, good hand hygiene is essential no matter what. Be sure to wash hands frequently and use hand
sanitizer if soap and water are not available.#
