PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The BS CRIMINOLOGY Program will enable its graduates to:
1. Foster the values of leadership, integrity, accountability and responsibility while serving their
fellowmen, community and country.
2. Prepare students for careers in crime prevention, law enforcement, scientific crime detection
and correctional administration
3. Encourage research and inquiry on the nature, causes treatment or punishment of criminal
behavior and how criminal justice agencies respond to crime, criminals and victims.
Course Title : Institutional Correction
Pre-requisite : none
Credit : 3 units
Course Description : An examination of the history, philosophy and objectives of imprisonment and
the development od prisons. A study of institutional agencies in the Philippines, to include BJMP which
overseas city and municipal jails; provincial jails and the Bureau of Corrections and their institutions in
terms of their structures, management, standards, programs and services. A critical analysis of the laws
creating these agencies to determine areas for possible improvement.
The Study focuses on the implementation of the UN standards on minimum rules in treating offenders, the
implementation of punishment and the application of modern theories and principles of corrections. It
integrates the new Penology Administration and the Rehabilitation Programs undertaken by the Bureau of
Jail Management and Penology.
