Question la: WORD PROCESSING

Type and print the following passage as it is using Times New Roman font type. (5MARKS)

How Can I Avoid Dangers on the internet?

Little wonder, then that some expects that over 320 million people will be using the internet by the
end of this year. Use of the Internet is thus becoming common place in many parts of the world.
With schools and libraries aggressively promoting its use, millions of young people have access to it. In
the United States, nearly 65% of youth between the ages of 12 and 19 have already used or subscribed
to on-line services.

Properly used the internet can be a source of helpful information on the weather, travel, and other
subjects. Through it you can buy books, car parts and other things. Many use it for school work

Although the internet can be useful, it can also seem like a library without a librarian or other
observers. One can browse it with the feeling that no one else is around. But this is one of the greatest
dangers of using the internet. Why? Because countless Web sites contain material that is morally
corrupt and destructive.

"Some Web sites

are shocking. They
can pop up without
warning"

CCTVcameras

Electronic security cameras have helped cut down violent crime and robberies in many of our city
centres. Sometimes these cameras are visible and act as a deterrent, whereas others are hidden
and are used during police surveillance. Although most people feel safer in city centres with the
use of these cameras, some people feel that they are an infringement of privacy. Cameras are also
used for traffic control at busy junctions and on motorways.

Information technology in the supermarket

Most large stores now use barcode readers, which are commonly called laser scanners, to input
product details into the computer system. The objectives of the scanning system are to improve
the service to customers and to increase company productivity and profits. The picture below
shows the scanning system used to scan in a barcode.

The scanning system uses a laser beam to read the bar code on the goods. The bars contain the
same information as the numeric code at the bottom of the barcode without the likely inaccuracies
of typing the number in. As the barcode is passed across the scanner this number is read and the
price and description of the goods are obtained from the computer, the sale registered and an
itemized receipt produced

Computer graphics is the generation of images through computer. It includes simple text displays as
well as images that appear to be in three dimensions.

An important part of the computer graphics is computer visualization, which attempts to pictorially
display data in a way that is most understandable for the user. For instance, visualization can allow
surgeons to preview a surgical procedure before actually performing it. Other forms of visualization
involve data that have no natural pictorial form. As a result, these must be displayed in a form that tells
a story or makes a point. If you've seen a graph or chart with a computer program that seemed to have
~ no clear meaning, you know why this area is important.

Like many areas in computer science, computer visualization is as much human psychology as
machine capability. The computer visualization expert asks, "How do we as human beings process
visuals?"

As computer graphics become more advanced, they termin.ate at a point called virtual reality, in which
graphics and sensory feedback are all-encompassing. This can be seen, for example, a room in which
every surface is covered with synchronized computer displays. It's important to note that virtual reality
does not promise an experience understandable from the "real world", although that may be a goal for
some researchers. Rather, it is an experience in which the outside world is temporally blocked from our
senses.
