Assessment Task 2
1. Innovation review
Workplace conditions encouraging innovation
Encouraging entrepreneurship: When innovation speeds up and global competition
intensifies, universities adopt entrepreneurship as an integral part of academic
experience, developing environments that encourage and foster innovative thinking. It
looks as though students come to university, whichever area they study, to make a
difference in society through inventions, social entrepreneurship and other initiatives
of their own making. Among young faculty, too, who now expect the new technology
to emerge or innovations as part of their academic careers, the same kind of energy
and enthusiasm may be seen.
Encouragement of collaboration with private sector: The colleges prioritize the
development of new collaborations with leading companies, foundations, and other
research-intensive institutions in today's challenging environment. Such
collaborations do not simply involve moving expertise from laboratory to training.
The funds are crucial for innovative faculty and students to conduct fundamental
research, to make it possible for students and faculty to discuss ideas with the best of
minds within and outside the university and, maybe most critically, to prepare
students to be the residents of a fast-changing world.
Promotion of Diversity and inclusion: It is critical to continue to focus on
integrating diverse perspectives into work at universities.
Three innovation drivers and enablers
Three strategies
Business strategies must be reframed: In this modern world of technology-led
transformation, industry revolution, globalization and rapidly shifting people's needs,
traditional solutions to implementation of corporate business strategies are being challenged.
Protection and recognition of intrapreneurs: An intrapreneur is a consultant who operates
in a major company to foster interest of internal creativity. Innovation should be an inherent
operational skill, rather than dependent on the research or title role.
An innovative culture must be built: Architecture and implementation of an integrated
corporate strategy that integrates agility. If the company is resistant to change, creativity does
not succeed. Developing open, equitable and stable innovation processes would be useful.
Individual creativity can be spontaneous, but collaborative innovation requires a mechanism.
Risk identification and management
Risk associated with the introduction of an innovative practice could be identified by the
following techniques:
Relative advantage: The greater the relative profit, the quicker the offer is taken. In order to
achieve a relative profit for your company, primary and secondary attributes which lead to
diffusion of your invention must be taken into consideration.
Triability: an innovation for which experimentation can be carried out is known as triability
Observability: The outcome of an innovation is calculated by this technique. The more
apparent the result of an idea, the simpler the innovation would be to implement.
Management of innovation risks could be achieved with the utilization of following
techniques:
Professional advice: Consultants, experts in the field or business network associates may
offer valuable insights into the relevant sectors.
Incremental innovation: Explore ways to improve the current offering. Customer reviews,
workers or networking with other companies will lead to new insights on low-cost
opportunities.
Ongoing research: Stay aware of market research and technological advancements which
may affect the business.
Techniques and tools used for idea generation and thinking practices:
Idea challenge: Idea challenge is a concentrated creativity process in which you pose a
problem or a chance with the goal of finding creative solutions.
SCAMPER technique: Bob Eberle invented the SCAMPER system which is used for the
management of challenges and creative thinking. SCAMPER stands for substitute, combine,
adapt, modify, put to other use, eliminate and reverse. This is a systematic approach to use
critical thinking to change existing ideas, principles or methods.
Brainstorm cards: Brainstorm Cards are a useful tool created by the Innovation Board to
come up with several hundred suggestions about any challenge or problem.
Opposite thinking: it is a strategy that can make an individual challenge their long-standing
market beliefs.
Among the above mentioned techniques of innovative idea generation two of them serve as
fostering both the personal as well as team innovation includes the Idea challenge and the
SCAMPER technique.
Current trends at King Edward VII College
The King Edward VII College currently exercises various innovative techniques such as
competitive pricing structure, innovative teaching methods and state of the art facilities. The
current staff strength of 24 members along with 14 trainers and assessors ensure that these
practices are taken into account to develop an innovative environment within the college.
Among these Innovative Teaching Methods could be utilized for framing the organisation’s
future practice. Innovative courses with origins in STEM, STEAM, creating and
constructivism are popular and effective to keep students involved. Interactive learning offers
a glimpse of insight on how graduates should incorporate hands-on skills before entering the
real world workforce, a far more professional and innovative workplace. Moreover, within
this technique the use of smart boards is promoted which serves as an important way to bring
the classroom to life while helping students to get to know each other more thoroughly. This
method is statistically more crucial as it offers a collaborative and interactive learning
experience for the students as well as for the teachers to assess each student in a more
effective way.
Processes to be adopted by the college for ensuring innovation awareness
Encouraging Interdepartmental interaction within the organisation environment
Alternatives must be constantly searched for and the team must be encouraged for the
same
Different perspectives must be gained by adopting reverse mentoring.
Regularly occurring brainstorming sessions must be conducted.

3. Revised meeting policies and procedure
Policy statement: The President shall preside over any meetings of the officials and
employees of the University, or, in the absence of that Chair, the Vice Chair. The Chairman
may nominate or designate a member of the college authority to be the president in the
absence of the Vice-Chair or, for other cause. In the absence of the Chair, the Chair or the
President shall conduct all activities according to the rules of discipline.
Policy and procedures
Those people attending the college meetings may be asked to identify with the college
official or a representative at the time of joining the meeting.
If there is only limited space within a meeting room, college authorities and staff
members and the press representatives will have preference over those with business
in front of the guests.
No person shall inflict, in any meeting of the college, any disruption, interruption or
intrusion, or threaten any member of the meeting.
Therefore, by coercion, force or violence no entity shall deliberately or
unintentionally deprive or intervene in the freedom of another person from any
meeting of free access or absence.
The Chair shall take account of the reasonable demands of all people attending the
district council meetings.
4. Current trends in the innovative learning and training practices
Flip methodology or classroom
Simply stated, this approach is to take responsibility for student learning and to make student
learners involved in the learning process. In this sense, teachers relegate themselves via e-
mail or intranet to the position of resource or resources suppliers, while students take
precedence in idea selection, information building and drawing inferences.
Peer teaching
The technique of even up the learning process in a class is among the most successful.
Typically, teachers combine high performance students with students who may fail in a
subject. Students are also invited to volunteer or are randomly selected as a tutor.
Leaving the classrooms
Learning could make students mindful of the world and themselves, broaden their
understanding and carry the reality to them. Colleges take students outside of the classroom.
Regardless of whether they are on the nature trail, or visited the cottage industry, students can
achieve direct communication about the theoretical studies through this technique

6. Meeting preparation
An annual outing for the organisation such as King Edward college VII is one of the easiest
ways of improving employee morale and allow staff to see each other in a no stressful
manner. Based on your corporate culture and budget, this style of outing can be as low-key or
so lavish as one would like. Who would rather advise than the staff themselves on what the
organisation such as The King Edward College VII, actually wants. When a firm finds that its
workers struggle to manage work-life, asking them what changes around the office can
improve the working conditions. One may be surprised to hear and cooperate on certain
mutually beneficial approaches. To encourage these often challenging conversations, arrange
regular meetings as a group or as one-on-one sessions in order to discuss coordination
matters. Know how you communicate with your employees. Team and senior management
should concentrate on their methods of communication and their effects on the business
world. When the team is there, it is appropriate to include the employees and help them
interact with the events both inside and outside the workplace.
Moreover, companies must strive to engage its employees in interactive sessions such as
brainstorming which is a creative process for underlining a fundamental process of
contradictory view and opinions. Brainstorming, however, is usually carried out in order to
achieve a goal, such as developing ideas for a future project. To create a fruitful
brainstorming session, members must balance the free collaboration with focused
concentration. In this way, successful brainstorming is analogous to many other creative
processes, which involve a good balance between creativity and art.
During a brainstorming session, once people know and trust each other, they will feel less
discouraged and may develop more innovative ideas. Selection of participants with
productive working relationships, encouraging them to unwind and take advantage of the
process is an essential step. This policy would encourage free flow of information and
prevent monopolizing the debate by any single person. Moreover, a moderator plays a role of
recording ideas, to encourage contribution, to deter negative feedback and to keep any
participant from monopolizing the debate and upholding basic rules. Implement the ideas
from your brainstorming session.
7. Brainstorming session
Operations manager: Hello all, today we have gathered to facilitate an effective
brainstorming session on innovation practices at King Edward VII College. Being the
operational manager I request you all to actively participate in the session to make it more
efficient thus promoting and reinforcing the values of innovation at the college workplace.

reflecting and encouraging innovative practice and proposing ways of improving staff
work/life balance.
CEO: I would like to welcome you all to the innovative brainstorming session. I will be
initiating this brainstorming session by carrying out a discussion upon the innovative
practices that must be taken into account. We as an organisation are committed to delivering
the working environment of continuous and strive to encourage employees to advance
towards their own credibility within the organisation.
Staff1: I suggest we must create something which is long lasting, as it would facilitate our
employees for being a part of something which is bigger than themselves.
Staff2: We must also, celebrate our success across the company in all its forms. This would
enable one another to obtain the knowledge of people from all across. It is an innovative way
of recognizing people from the different functions across the company.
Staff3: In my opinion the employees must be provided time for devising new and innovative
solution as in google, which allocates a total of 20% of its time for the employees to present
develop fresh ideas for the company and encourage an entrepreneurial environment.
Staff4: the college must also release a sufficient amount of funds for the successful
implementation of such ideas which can actually bring a large organisational transformation.
Staff5: the employees must be motivated to participate in employment opportunities such as
career fairs, co-operative education and work study. Apart from that online career services
such as careerConnect must be established.
CEO: I have clearly understood each and every point raised by each one of you, and I hereby
would like to bring this session to an end by concluding that I have decided to adopt all the
suggestions laid down. I would be facilitating the adoption to all of you by developing an
appropriate action plan that would be made available by the operation manager.
Operations manager: Thank you all actively participating and pitching in your ideas during
the brainstorming session.
8. Innovation leadership report
Summary of the meeting
The meeting with the staff of King Edward VII college was carried out post the meeting
policies and procedures review.
I believe that the participants actively took part in the meeting and proposed their innovative
ideas for the development of an innovative workplace and encouraging an improved work life
balance. The objectives were accurately met and the session was concluded with the proposal
to develop an effective action plan.
The suggestions laid down by the participants included:
Creation of a participatory platform for everyone
Celebration of success as a way of indulging
Appropriate time allocation for idea generation
Availability of sufficient funds
Introduction of employment opportunities
Summary of risks involved
Risks involved Mitigation of risks
Lower employee motivation Implementation of employee motivation
strategies such as incentive programs for
innovators, contests and awards.
Lack of collaboration Innovation must be encouraged through
collaborative practices which involves the
participation of industry partners and the
competitors to drive the companies’
innovative framework.
Evaluation of the leadership style
The leadership that I have employed during the staff meeting was the democratic style of
leadership. It is one of the most efficient forms of leadership since it encourages low-level
staff to retain skills they will need to take advantage of carefully in future positions. It also
seems like decision-making in meetings of the company board. I have provided the team with
various decision-making options with this style. Then a conversation was opened on each
alternative. Following the discussion, I considered the Board's views and suggestions.
