The “Little Mister” Shoe Pattern

Supplies:
Outer fabric: 1/4 yard or fat quarter
Inner fabric: 1/4 yard or fat quarter
Thick/heavy interfacing (note: if you like shoes not as stiff, use light interfacing.)
Fabric types: Leather, Faux Leather, Cotton, Fleece, Minky

Tips:
Please use heel chart on the last page, before cutting out your pattern pieces!
All seam allowances are 1/4”
Top stitching is 1/8” seam allowance.
Back stitch at the beginning and ending of all seams.
Clipping notches for corners helps the shoe lay smoothly when turning it inside out.
Using lots of pins will help keep the layers aligned and keep them from slipping.
If using fusible interfacing, fuse to wrong side of outer fabric.
Nice, but not necessary: pinking shears
pattern weights

Step 1: Print out pattern, choose size, and cut

out pieces. Cut out 2 of each sole, heel, and
tongue. Cut out 4 of strap. Be sure to mark the
lines for the center of the heel, tongue, and sole.

Step 2: Cut out 2 of each sole, heel, and tongue.

Cut out 2 of interfacing for sole, heel. and tongue.

Step 3: Take time now to make sure you cut out

all of your pieces for each shoes. Make sure you
have a left sole, and a right sole of each inner and
outer fabric.
Step 4: Layer your pieces as follows for tongue
and heel pieces.
Outer fabric and inner fabric, right sides together,
with interfacing behind the outer fabric.
outer fabric inner fabric
For sole pieces: Sandwhich interfacing between
outer and inner fabric. Outer and inner fabric
should be right sides facing out.

interfacing

Step 5: Sew along top edge of tongue and heel,

both pieces. Be sure to leave the edge that con-
nects to the sole open.

Step 6: Use pinking shears or clip notches around

all curves on tongue, and heel. If you don’t have
pinking shears and don’t want to clip notches,
trim closely to the seam, without snipping any
stitches, to trim up some of the bulk so the shoe
lays properly.
Step 7: Turn and top stitch along sewn edge of
heel and tongue.

Step 8: I like to do a tight zig zag stitch to hold

the sole pieces together. Again, remember that
the sole pieces go as follows: Outer fabric right
side out, interfacing, inner fabric right side out.

Step 9: Line up center lines on sole and heel,

right sides together. Work your way around pin-
ning heel to sole.

TIP: If doing the Reverse Tongue, attach the

tongue first, lining up center notch on tongue and
sole front. Then attach the heel using the same
method.
Step 10: Stitch heel to sole all the way around.
Remove pins.

Step 11: Fold strap pieces in half, then each side

in half again. Top stitch around all 4 sides. Attach
to heel in marked spots. If you’re using velcro,
attach to strap and heel now.
TIP: If you are using one large strap, instead of 2
smaller straps, follow same procedure, but add
an additional inch to width of strap when cutting.

Step 12: Attach the tongue, matching up center

lines and pin around. Stitch. Note that the tongue
will overlap the heel pieces on each side.
Step 13: Trim around the entire shoe, using pink-
ing shears or clipping corners.

Step 14: Turn inside out and attach snaps if

desired. Step back and enjoy your shoes!
