Introduction:-
You should understand that in terms of root letters all verbs and nouns are made
up of two types:-
1. Thulaathi ﺛﻼﰔ: - All those words which have three root letters. E.g. ﴐ ٌب ُدﺧ ُْﻮ ٌل َْ
ٌ ْ ِا ْﺳ ِت ْن َﺼ ٌﺎر ﻧ

2. Ruba’i ر�ﻋﻲ: - All those words which have four root letters. E.g. ﴪﺑ ُ ٌﻞ ﻋ َْﺴ َﻜ َﺮ ٌة

Then Thulaathi and Ruba’i of two types:-
1. Mujarrad ﳎﺮد: - Those words which only have root letters in the first word
( )وا�ﺪ ﻣﺬ�ﺮ �ﺎﺋﺐof the past tense. It does not have any extra letters,
e.g. َﴫ
َ َ ﻧis the first word of the past tense, the root letters in this word are
( )ن ص رbecause there are no additional letters, this will be Thulaathi
Mujarrad ﺛﻼﰔ ﳎﺮد.
The word ﺑ َ ْﻌ َ َﱶis a first past tense word ( )وا�ﺪ ﻣﺬ�ﺮ �ﺎﺋﺐthe root letters in this
word are ( )ب ع ث رbecause there are no additional letters other than its root
letters, this will be Ruba’i Mujarrad ر�ﻋﻲ ﳎﺮد.
2. Mazeed Feeh ﻣﺰﯾﺪ ﻓيﻪ: -When there are additional letters other than the root
letters in the first word of the past tense. E.g. ﴫ َ َ ْ ِا ْﺳتَنthe root letters in this
word are ()ن ص ر, all the other letters are extra, this is the reason it shall be
called Thulaathi Mazeed Feeh ﺛﻼﰔ ﻣﺰﯾﺪ ﻓيﻪ.
The word ﴪﺑ َ َﻞ ْ َ َ � is made up of four root letters ()س ر ب ل. The تis extra.
This is the reason it is called Ruba'i Mazeed Feeh ر�ﻋﻲ ﻣﺰﯾﺪ ﻓيﻪ.
NOTE:- To identify a Mujarrad or Mazeed Feeh always look at the first word
of the past tense ﻣﺎﴈ وا�ﺪ ﻣﺬ�ﺮ �ﺎﺋﺐ

The Thulaathi Mujarrad are of six types. They come in six different forms which
are known as abwaab اﺑﻮاب. Every ﺛﻼﰔ ﳎﺮدword will follow one of these 6 patterns
They are like set patterns, hence other words applied on each pattern will follow
the same scales. However, the Root word ( )ﻣﺼﺪرshall be different, because in
Arabic language there are no fixed scales for ﺛﻼﱄ ﳎﺮد ﻣﺼﺪر.
NOTE: Generally a question is asked by students regarding how to recognise what
scale a word will be on and how will they identify the root word of each scale. NO
NEED TO WORRY. THIS IS FOUND IN A DICTIONARY AND AS GUIDED
BY YOUR TEACHERS.

Words also on this scale: اﻟ ُﻘ ْﺮ ُب- To become close ُ اﻟ ُﺒ ْﻌﺪ- To be far
Note: - Generally any word on this pattern (scale) does not have any ﳎﻬﻮلor any
اﰟ ﻣﻔﻌﻮلbecause words on this scale are generally connected with natural features.
E.g. = اﻟ َﻜ َﺮ ُمTo be generous. = الﻠُ ْﻄ ُﻒTo be pure Someone's interference cannot be
done on these features because they are natural. So a person cannot be its victim.
This is why the ﳎﻬﻮلand اﰟ ﻣﻔﻌﻮلdoes not come on this scale.

Note:-
The ﺛﻼﰔ ﻣﺰﯾﺪ ﻓيﻪare also categorized into two types:-
1. ﲠﻤﺰة اﻟﻮﺻﻞ،ﺛﻼﰔ ﻣﺰﯾﺪ ﻓيﻪ:- Thulaathi Mazeed Feeh with “Hamza Wasl”
2. ﺛﻼﰔ ﻣﺰﯾﺪ ﻓيﻪ ﺑﻐﲑ ﳘﺰة اﻟﻮﺻﻞ:- Thulaathi Mazeed Feeh without “Hamza Wasl”
Note:- ﳘﺰة اﻟﻮﺻﻞHamza Wasl is that Hamza which becomes silent when another
word is joined before it. E.g. The word “ﻮن ِ ” ِا ْر ِﺟ ُﻌWhen a word is joined before it
this Hamza will become silent.
For example if we join the word “ َ”ر ِ ّبthen it will be pronounced “ﻮن ِ َ”ر ِ ّب ْار ِﺟ ُﻌ
ﳘﺰة ﺑﻐﲑ اﻟﻮﺻﻞHamza without Wasl is that Hamza which does not drop even if
another word is joined before it. Another name for it is Hamza Qatee ()ﳘﺰة اﻟﻘﻄﻌﻲ.
E.g. The word “ ”ا ِﻻ ْﻛ َﺮامWhen a word is joined before it, then this Hamza will not
be dropped.
For example if we join the word “ ” ُذ ْوthen it will be pronounced “” ُذ ْو ا ِﻻ ْﻛ َﺮام
Note:- All the اﺑﻮابof ﺛﻼﰔ ﻣﺰﯾﺪ ﻓيﻪ, the اﰟ ﻇﺮفwill be the same scale as اﰟ ﻣﻔﻌﻮل
e.g. اﰟ ﻣﻔﻌﻮل = ُﻣ ْﻜ َﺮ ٌم/ اﰟ ﻇﺮف
