Cat 6A Patch Panel Installation Guide

Power Cat 6A Data Gate Shielded Patch Panel

Note: Follow from Sheet no.5 for old design Jack installation procedure.

1.0 SCOPE
This document provides installation instructions for Molex Power Cat 6A Data Gate Patch Panel.
2.0 PROCEDURE
2.1 TOOLS REQUIRED:

Wire Cutter
110 Punch down tool Cable Stripper

Flat Screwdriver
Needle Nose Plier 4-Pair Termination Tool(31.0011)
Lacing Head (31.0015)

WRAP 30mm OF FOIL

2.2 U/FTP CABLE PREPARATION:


1. Slide Rear Housing on to Cable (see Fig. 1)
2. Remove 75mm (3") of Cable sheath with Cable stripper (see Fig. 2)
3. Unwrap and remove 3 of the twisted pair’s foils with wire clippers.
4. Wrap approx. 30mm (1.2”) of 4th foil down the length of Cable sheath and coil the Drain wire on foil (see Fig.3 and
Fig.4)
 Ensure Cable foil’s conductive surface is facing out.
F/UTP Cable preparation:
1) Slide Rear Housing on to Cable (see Fig. 1)
2) Remove 75mm (3") of Cable sheath with Cable stripper (see Fig. 2)
3) Unwrap overall foil from Cable.
4) Remove Cable cellophane wrap and central spline with wire clipper (See Fig.3)
5) Wrap approx. 30mm (1.2”) of foil down the length of Cable sheath and coil the Drain wire on foil (see Fig. 4)
 Ensure Cable foil’s conductive surface is facing out.

2.3 CABLE TERMINATION TO JACK:
1. Wiring map (see Fig. 5) Label affixed on Jack IDC housing.

2. Untwist Cable pairs and place the Cables as per wiring map (Fig.6) and punch down wires to corresponding Jack IDC
contacts with 110 punch down tool (Fig.7). Molex also recommends 4-Pair Termination Tool (Fig.8) using Lacing head
for termination.

3. Ensure wires are trimmed flush to IDC towers
4. Ensure Cable sheath is maintained up to the Jack.

2.4 Fix the Stuffer cap to IDC Housing (Fig.9) (Ensure Stuffer cap is locked perfectly with IDC Housing) and then Slide down the Rear
Housing till it is locked with IDC Housing 4 latches.

2.5 Insert and push the Cable clamp in shown orientation (Straight Entry) till the Cable clamp is locked with Rear Housing latches. Then
insert the Cable grip and push on both sides by Nose Plier to hold the Cable along with Cable clamp as shown.
NOTE: Ensure drain wire is touching with Cable clamp while fixing the Cable grip.

3.0 PROCEDURE TO REMOVE THE REAR HOUSING:
4.1 Put Screw drive and lift one end of the Cable grip as shown towards up and disengage of the teeth, refer fig.12

4.2 Insert needle Nose Plier into the Rear Housing slots and push both latches at a time and tilt the Rear Housing as shown (Fig.13) and
hold in that position and rotate the Jack 180⁰ (Fig.14). follow same step on other side (Fig.15).

4.4 Insert the Screwdriver and gently lift the Stuffer cap latch and tilt stuffer cap as shown (Fig.16) and rotate the
Jack 180⁰ and follow the same step (Fig.17) and remove stuffer cap (Fig.18 &19).

4.0 TO ASSEMBLE JACK TO PATCH PANEL. (FIG. 20)


1. Orientate jack to panel as shown
2. Slide in jack into patch panel port opening at slight angle
3. Snap jack into panel by pushing down on top of jack
5.0 TO DRESS CABLE TO PATCH PANEL CABLE TRAY:
1. Secure cables to cable tray with cable ties (see Fig. 21)
 Ensure cable are dressed neatly to cable tray
 Ensure a minimum 29mm (1”) of bend radius is maintained
 Ensure cable tie does not over compress cable
2. Individually Earth each patch panel to cabinet Earth position (see Fig. 20)

PROCEDURE FOR OLD DESIGN JACK INSTALLATION.
Tools required:
 110 punch down tool, cable strippers, wire clippers, and screwdriver

U/FTP cable preparation:


5. Ensure rear housing cable clamp is open (as showing in figures)
6. Slide rear housing on to cable (see Fig. 22)
7. Remove 75mm (3") of cable sheath with cable stripper (see Fig. 23)
8. Unwrap and remove 3 of the twisted pair’s foils with wire clippers
9. Wrap approx 30mm (1.2”) of 4th foil down length of cable sheath (see Fig. 24)
 Ensure cable foil’s conductive surface is facing out
F/UTP cable preparation:
1. Ensure rear housing cable clamp is open (as shown in figures)
2. Slide rear housing on to cable (see Fig. 22)
3. Remove 75mm (3") of cable sheath with cable stripper (see Fig. 23)
4. Unwrap overall foil from cable
5. Remove cable cellophane wrap and center section with wire clippers
6. Wrap approx 30mm (1.2”) of foil down length of cable sheath (see Fig. 24)
 Ensure cable foil’s conductive surface is facing out

To fit rear housing to jack:
1. Fit cable strain relief stuffer cap to IDT towers (see Fig. 26)
2. Wrap drain wire around cable foil 3 - 4 times (see Fig. 26)
3. Snap rear housing to jack (see Fig. 27)
4. Push clamp down to close clamp (see Fig. 27)
 Ensure cable clamp clamps down on wrapped drain wire
 Trim excess foil with clippers

To remove rear housing from jack:


1. Lift cable clamp with screwdriver (see Fig. 28)
2. Lift rear housing snap latches with screwdriver (see Fig. 28)
3. Pull rear housing apart from jack

4. Orientate jack to panel as shown
5. Slide in jack into patch panel port opening at slight angle
6. Snap jack into panel by pushing down on top of jack
To dress cable to patch panel cable tray:
3. Secure cables to cable tray with cable ties (see Fig. 29)
 Ensure cable are dressed neatly to cable tray
 Ensure a minimum 29mm (1”) of bend radius is maintained
 Ensure cable tie does not over compress cable
4. Individually Earth each patch panel to cabinet Earth position (see Fig. 30)
