Social Responsiveness Scale Sample Report

A's parents and teacher completed the Social Responsiveness Scale, Second Edition (SRS-2) to assess A's social and communication skills. The parent report showed scores in the mild to severe range in different social dimensions, indicating difficulties picking up social cues and interpreting them that interfered with social interactions at home. The teacher report yielded severe scores across all dimensions, suggesting severe problems with social cues, communication, and motivation at school that impacted everyday social interactions. Both reports found severe impairments in restricted/repetitive behaviors. Overall, A's SRS-2 results strongly indicate a clinical diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

  • How does quantum computing actually work in simple terms?

Quantum computing is a branch of computing that uses the laws of quantum mechanics to process information in fundamentally new ways.

  • How do my kidneys work to clean my blood each day?

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located in the lower back that play a crucial role in filtering and cleaning the blood.

  • What is a magnetic field and how does it work?

A magnetic field is a fundamental concept in physics that describes the influence exerted by magnets and moving electric charges. It is one part of the electromagnetic field, the other part being the electric field. In simple terms, a magnetic field can be thought of as an invisible force field that extends through space and affects magnetic materials and moving charges. At each point, the field has both a strength (magnitude) and a direction, making it what mathematicians call a vector field.

Social Responsiveness Scale – Second Edition (SRS-2)

A’s parents and class teacher, Ms. Yogitha completed the Social Responsiveness Scale,
Second Edition (SRS-2) to assess A’s social interaction and communicative social skills. The
SRS-2 is a 65-item questionnaire covering various dimensions of interpersonal behavior,
social cognition, and communication.

a. Parent Report
Subscales T - Score Range
Social Awareness 64 Mild
Social Cognition 70 Moderate
Social Communication 83 Severe
Social Motivation 85 Severe
Total Social Communication and Interaction 82 Severe
Restricted and Repetitive Behaviour 83 Severe

The parent’s report yields score in the Mild range in the area of Social Awareness, meaning
that at home, A was presented with difficulties in picking up on social cues which led to mild
to moderate interference with everyday social situations. A’s parents also reported skills in
Social Cognition to be within the Moderate range, indicating that at home, A was observed to
have difficulties interpreting social cues, which caused substantial interference with everyday
social interactions at home. A’s Social Communication falls within the Severe range,
suggesting that he exhibited expressive social communication skills that are significantly less
developed than those of his same-aged peers. His Social Motivation was reported to be in the
Severe range, indicating that he exhibited difficulties with motivation to engage in social-
interpersonal behaviour at home. Both Social Communication and Social Motivation have led
to severe interference with everyday social interactions at home.

b. Teacher Report
Subscales T - Score Range
Social Awareness 81 Severe
Social Cognition > 90 Severe
Social Communication 86 Severe
Social Motivation > 90 Severe
Total Social Communication and Interaction > 90 Severe
Restricted and Repetitive Behaviour > 90 Severe

The parent’s report yields scores that fall in the Severe range across all subscales in the SRS-
2. A’s Social Awareness score fell within the Severe range, meaning that in school, A was
presented with difficulties in picking up on social cues which led to severe interference with
social situations with friends and teachers. A’s teacher also reported skills in Social Cognition
to be within the Severe range, indicating that at home, A was observed to have difficulties
interpreting social cues, which caused severe interference with everyday social interactions at
school. Similar to the parent report, A’s Social Communication and Social Motivation fall
within the Severe range of the teacher report, suggesting that he exhibited difficulties in
expressive social communication skills and motivation to engage in social-interpersonal
behaviour at home, which have led to severe interference with everyday social interactions at
home.
In general, both A’s SRS-2 parent and teacher reports indicate skills within the Severe range
in the area of Restricted Interests and Repetitive Behavior. This suggests that A exhibits
preoccupations and mannerisms characteristic of Autism across both home and school
settings. Other than that, the Severe Range of Social Communication and Interaction from
both parent and teacher reports reflected challenges in social communication that led to
severe interference with everyday social interactions. Putting together, A’s scores from SRS-
2 are strongly associated with a clinical diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
