A. Background Information for Learners


This lesson is all about applying major social science theories and its importance in examining cultural, economic and political conditions. It
involves activities which can help the students to master the assigned competency.
 Structural Functionalism – (created by Emile Durkheim) According to this theory, Society is made up of a bunch of moving parts that move
together as one.
 Marxism -is a political theory that analyzes how social classes, money and most importantly, the means of production, or factories, affect
society.
 Symbolic Interactionism- the view of social behavior that emphasizes linguistic or gestural communication and its subjective understanding,
especially the role of language in the formation of the child as a social being.

Direction: Using the sheet of paper, draw a community comprised of different institutions (family, schools, hospitals, church,
