LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET (LAS)
GRADE 7 – EARTH AND SPACE
Name: Date: Rating/Score:
THE EARTH’S TILTED AXIS AND ITS EFFECTS
Activity 1: Light and Dark
DIRECTIONS: Complete the diagram below to illustrate how day and night happen by
following the given procedure.
Figure 1- Sun-Earth System
Procedure:
1. Label the Sun and Earth.
2. Draw a line representing the Earth’s axis and label North and South Pole.
3. Draw arrows to represent Sun’s rays moving toward the Earth.
4. Draw arrows to represent the direction of the Earth’s rotation.
5. Lightly shade the part of the Earth that is experiencing nighttime.
Questions:
1. In what direction does the Earth rotate?
2. How long does it take for the Earth to complete one rotation?
3. What causes day and night?
4. Why is it daytime on one side of the Earth and nighttime on the other side?
5. Is Earth’s rotation important? Explain your answer.
Specific Week: 5 (LAS 3)
Target Competency: Using models, relate the tilt of the Earth to the length of
daytime (S7ES-IVh-5).

GRADE 7 – EARTH AND SPACE
Activity 2: The Earth’s Tilted Axis
A. DIRECTIONS: Study Figure 2 and answer the questions in the right box.
Questions:
1. What is the angle of inclination
of the Earth’s axis?
2. Which hemisphere is tilted
toward the Sun?
3. Which hemisphere is tilted
away from the Sun?
4. Which hemisphere receives
greater amount of sunlight?
Illustration: Villasoto, E. (2021)
5. Why do places that receive
direct rays of the Sun have
Figure 2 - The Earth’s Tilted Axis warmer temperature?
B. DIRECTIONS:
Figure 2 shows the orientation of the Earth’s axis in the month of June. Six months
later, the Earth would have moved halfway around the Sun.
In the box, draw a diagram that shows which part of the Earth’s axis will be tilted
toward the Sun after six (6) months and answer the questions in the right box.
Questions:
1. Which hemisphere is tilted
toward the Sun?
2. Which hemisphere is tilted away
from the Sun?
3. Which hemisphere receives
greater amount of sunlight?

Questions
1. Which month has the longest daytime? shortest daytime?
2. Analyze the length of daytime from December to June, then from June to December.
What have you observed?
B. DIRECTIONS: Label Figure 3 and draw arrows to show the direction of the Earth’s
revolution. Then, fill in the information needed to complete the table
below.

Specific Week: 5 (LAS 3)
Target Competency: Using models, relate the length of daytime to the amount of energy
received and the position of the Earth in its orbit to the height of the
Sun in the sky. (S7ES-IVh-5)
