WRITING  When you write an informal email you must pay attention to:

STRUCTURE

 Greet your friend:

 Say “Hi…”/ “Dear…” This greeting is followed by an optional comma. You can
write it or not. You decide.

 Organise your email into paragraphs: paragraphs are the main body of your email.

 Start writing the body of your email under the greeting you’ve chosen.

 Start the body of your email with a suitable beginning “Thanks for your
letter”/”It was nice to hear from you”, etc.

 Paragraphs always start with a topic sentence. Topic sentences express the
essential idea of a paragraph. The rest of the paragraph gives more details
about the topic sentence.

 If you change the topic, change the paragraph.

 Suitable ending:

 Write it under the last paragraph you’ve written.

 Say “See you soon” / “Best wishes”/ “Love”, etc.

 Choose only one.

 Signature:

 Write your name under the suitable ending you’ve chosen.

 Always Sign emails with your name.

STYLE

 Use contracted forms:

 Emails to friends are informal.

 Always use contracted forms

 Say “I’m” / We’re”/ “I’ve had”.

IDEAS
 Questions:

 You must answer every question you’re asked.

 Keep it simple:

 Answer all the question writing easy structures. Don’t write anything too long
or complicated.

 Connectors:

 Connect your ideas using a variety of connectors (and/ because/ but). Your
sentences will sound much better!

WHEN YOU FINISH…

 Read your email again carefully. Pay especial attention to:

 Tenses  did you write all the verbs in the correct tense?

 Spelling  did you write all the words correctly?
