Hands-on Demonstration: Smooth Non Cutting Moves
You can now control transfer move smoothing separately from approach/engage and retract/departure
smoothing for planar mill, cavity mill, and hole making operations.

Prerequisites:
1. You will need access to NX CAM 12.0 in order to run this demonstration.
2. If you haven’t done so already, download and unzip smooth_non_cutting.7z.
Demo:
1. Open smooth_non_cutting.prt in NX.
We’ll begin by looking at the approach/engage, retract/departure, and transfer moves in a Floor
Wall IPW operation.
2. Double-click FLOOR_WALL_IPW_1 to edit the operation.
3. Click Replay .

Notice the abrupt change in direction in the engage, retract, and transfer moves.
4. Click Non Cutting Moves .
5. Select the Smoothing tab.
6. Select the Smooth Corners check box.
The Smooth Transfer Move Corners check box is new.
Prior to this enhancement, smoothing the transfer move corners could not be controlled
seperately. Smooth transitions between approach/engage moves, retract/departure moves, at
transfer move corners, and at the end of ramp and helical closed engages were all controlled by
the Smooth Corners toggle.
7. Clear the Smooth Transfer Move Corners check box.
8. Type 4.0000 in the Smoothing Radius box.
9. Click OK.
10. Click Generate .

Smooth transitions using the 4.000 mm radius occur between approach/engage moves (1) and
retract/departure moves (2), but not at the transfer move corners (3).
11. Click Non Cutting Moves .
12. Select the Smooth Transfer Move Corners check box.
13. Click OK.
14. Click Generate .
Smooth transitions using the 4.000 mm radius occur between approach/engage moves,
retract/departure moves, and at the transfer move corners.
15. Click OK to complete the operation.
16. Continue practicing using the other operations in this part.
17. When you are finished, close the part without saving.
