Subject: Democrats Trying to Steal NV Governor’s Race
Today, the Democrat Governors Association (DGA) has launched a television ad through its NV
PAC, “A Stronger NV.” The television buy is nearly $600,000 for this week and directly attacks
Sheriff Lombardo.
Governor Sisolak knows that Sheriff Lombardo is the one candidate he cannot beat this
November, therefore Democrats are now inserting themselves into the Republican primary.
With five more weeks until the June election, we now expect Democrat spending in the
Republican primary to range between $2.5 to $3 million.
Better Nevada PAC aired television ads, in 2021 and early 2022, to boost Sheriff Joe Lombardo
and ensure he maintained his position as the frontrunner in the primary. This strong positioning
and the sheriff’s conservative, tough on crime record helped him secure the endorsement of
President Donald J. Trump. Now, the Democrats have placed a large target on his back.
The PAC is spending its remaining resources educating voters that President Trump supports
Sheriff Lombardo. However, now with this influx of liberal dark money attacking the Sheriff, we
must act now to defend our strong position.
Any additional resources raised into the PAC will be used to promote our endorsement from
President Trump and call out the Democrats for meddling in a GOP primary.
Just like in 2010 when Harry Reid picked Sharron Angle as his general election opponent,
Democrats are trying to do it again, but we will not let this happen. Your help and additional
support can ensure that Sheriff Lombardo wins the primary and makes the Democrats and
Governor Sisolak look weak for failing to defeat him.
Team Lombardo Fact Check
How worried are D.C. Democrats about Steve Sisolak having to face Joe Lombardo in
November? This worried:
Through the "A Stronger Nevada" PAC, the DGA is now spending hundreds of thousands of
dollars in the Republican primary on attack ads...attack ads ALL against Sheriff Joe Lombardo.
Why Sheriff Lombardo? Because Democrats know that he's the only Republican who can beat
Steve Sisolak in November.
The claims and narrative within the DGA's new ad could not be more untrue or inaccurate, so
here's a few factchecks for you:
The DGA claims that Joe Lombardo got rid of Metro's anti-gang unit. That is false. To
fight gang violence, Sheriff Lombardo decentralized multiple investigative teams at
Metro, including the narcotics and gang enforcement units. Metro did this so substations
would share the responsibility of dealing with gangs, and so that the gang intelligence
unit could share its information with patrol officers throughout the valley. No one EVER
got rid of the gang unit.
The DGA claims that there was an increase in violent crime after Metro's organizational
changes to the gang unit. Also, false. FBI stats for 2016 show that the est. number of
violent crimes increased 4.1% nationwide. While the FBI reported a nationwide increase
in crime, Sheriff Lombardo and Clark County bucked the trend and reported a 3.4%
decrease in violent crime over the same time period. It’s disingenuous, and more
importantly, incorrect to say that in 2016 there were “marked increases in rapes,
robberies, assaults, and homicides,” when Clark County reported a DECREASE in
violent crime, while the FBI reported a nationwide INCREASE.
The DGA claims that Joe Lombardo chose to cut 112 police officers. False. Metro was
forced to lay off part-time civilian employees because of COVID budget cuts in 2020. No
police officers were laid off. Joe kept cops on our street during the pandemic. While
Steve Sisolak cared about keeping our state shut down, Joe Lombardo cared about
keeping cops on our streets to keep our community safe.
What the DGA told you: The number of police in Las Vegas fell below the national
recommended standard. What the DGA didn't tell you: Metro's overall number of police
officers per 1,000 residents *increased* from 1.96 in 2020-2021 to 2.00 in 2021-2022.
The DGA says that crime has increased now that Joe's running for governor. In 2021,
violent crime decreased in Clark by 13%. And this year, the murder rate is already down.
Metro also has a crime solve rate of over 90%, which is one of the highest in the US. The
DGA's anti-police rhetoric is sick. The DGA's involvement in a Republican primary is
pathetic. And the DGA's lies about Joe Lombardo are a desperate attempt to prevent him
from winning the Republican primary because they know he's the only one who can beat
Sisolak.
