Lesson Plan in Mathematics Grade ___
Prepared by: Kent A. Marianito
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to;
a. describes a proportion, means and extremes; (describe- because of the word “…will be
able to” … to must be followed with a base form of verb…no s anymore.)
b. use cross product to solve the missing term in a proportion;
c. determine pair of ratios as proportion. (This objective is the same with the first
objective and it’s better than your first objective.)
d. (You can add: solve one step-word problem involving ratio and proportion since you
are introducing already missing term for higher level thinking skill.)
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Understanding Proportion
References: Our World of Math pp. 268-269
Materials: power point
Values Focus: Appreciation of numbers and dedication to find solution
IFL: Don’t forget to have your IFLL
III. Procedure
A. Review
Let the students recall the lesson about ratios Students recalling the previous topic by
opening their notes
B. Motivation
Engage the students to answer a world problem to build their
understanding about proportion about facts.
Facts:
How many days in one-month class? Students are listening
How many minutes in one-hour? 30 days’ ma’am
How many months is one year? 60 minutes
Okay class sense you know it already how about this. 12 months
In a Math test, Lawrence scored 12 out of 15,
while in a Science test he got 16 out of 20.
Ok, class try to solved it maybe, but we find it later Students are wondering and try to
solved to their paper
(Your word problem is lacking with a question)
C. Presentation
In which subject did Lawrence perform better?
How can we get the answer?
Maybe, but we find it later Math Sir
Because in math he just 3 mistake
D. Discussion while in science 4.
What is Proportion?
- proportion is the equality of two ratios.
- it is written in the form
STUDENTS ARE LISTENING
a. : b = c : d
Example:
12 : 15 = 16 : 20
it is read as ”12 is to 15 as 16 is to 20”
rename the two ratios in their lowest terms
both ratios are equal to 4:5 hence, the two ratios are equal.
In any proportion, the product of the means is equal to the
product of the extremes. It is called law of proportion.
- The statement that two ratios are equal
called Proportion.
Example:
12:15 = 16:20
*To prove that they are equal, cross product.
15 x 16 = 240
means
12 x 20 = 240
extremes
Each has an answer of 240.
- to solve the missing term in proportion,
we can cross product or the law of
proportion.
Let
7 =say,
n
Find
3 the9 n in the equation
7=n *find the product of the means and the extremes
3 9 *n is the unknown variable
3*n=7*9 *divide both
3n = 63
sides by 3
7=n 3n = 63
3 3
3 9 n = 21
Students are solving too
follow these guide steps.
Step1. Write the proportion in fraction form.
n = 10
3 15
Step2.Cross product the extremes and then the means.
Note that, we use the raised dot (.) for multiplication instead
of x symbol.
n = 10
3 15 15 * n = 3 *10 15n = 30
Step3. Divide the left and right sides.
Note that the number beside the variable is the number we
use to divide for both sides.
15n = 30 n=2
15 15
Now to determine if two ratios are propotion, replace n with
2, and then cross product.
2 = 10
2*15 = 30
3 15
3*10 = 30
Just remember that proportion is the equality of two ratios
therefore, the answer is correct for we got equal means and
extremes.
E. Application
F. Generalization
Students are solving listening the
Two equal ratios are called Proportion. teacher
To get the missing term we use cross
product.

Get 1 whole sheet of paper for our evaluation
IV-Evaluation (This must be written outside in this
box.)
A. Directions: Find the value of n in each
(following- no need of this word because
of your “each”) proportion.
1. n : 4 = 3 : 6
2. 2 : 4 = n : 12
3. 8 : 12 = 10 : n
4. 5 : n = 1 : 2
5. 10 : 3 = n : 9
6. 3 : 7 = 24 : n
7. 7 : 3 = 48 : n
8. n : 9 = 18 : 2 Students get a paper and solved the
9. n : 5 = 48 : 60 evaluation problem in A and B
10. n : 10 = 18 : 5
B. Determine if the two pairs of ratios are
proportion to each other.
1. 5 : 10 = 6 : 12
2. 2 : 2 = 6 : 9
3. 12 : 21 = 7 : 12
4. 6 : 28 = 3 : 14
5. 7 : 4 = 21 : 24
V- Assignment (This must be written outside in this
box.)
In your textbook, answer individual work page
272 A and B.
Put your answers in your notebook.
Yes, Sir Roger that

Reminders!
1. Take note of the subject- verb agreement Ex. …will be able to: solve… (not solves…)
2. Search some interactive games/activities from the internet for free like World Wall,
Quizzes, or interactive power point, & etc.
3. Make an objective that is in higher level thinking specially in the intermediate grades.
Solve or create a simple word problem involving ratio & proportion.
4. Application must be right after the discussion to apply what you have explained to
them. Make it interactive activity but short only like 1-5 if very easy, if hard 1-3 #s only.
5. Generalization will be after you let them apply what they have learned, including your
IFLL.
6. It’s better to integrate faith & learning & Life anywhere in your LP as long as there is
opportunity. Ex. There were 6 girls and 10 boys who were listening at Jesus’s story.
What is the equivalent ratio of girls to boys in the lowest term to make a proportion?
How do you feel if you are one of those children listening at Jesus’s story?
7. In your Evaluation- go back to your objectives to assess your pupils how much they have
achieved in your lessons. (Shorten the number of your evaluation if possible, specially if
there are word problems.5 items is enough in each part.)
CONGRATULATIONS! You have tried your best in making your lesson plan.
May those reminders & corrections will be of great help to make a better lesson plan getting
ready for your teaching demonstration & student teaching.
Thank you & may God bless you always!
