GE makes no warranties, indemnities, or representations regarding the Guide Specification contents or use.
GE is not responsible for any modification or alteration of the specification information, and the user is

user. The Guide Specification Template is the property of General Electric Company.

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

1.02 This specification shall define the electrical characteristic, mechanical characteristics and
design requirements for a single-phase, solid-state uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
The UPS shall provide continuous AC power for critical electronic equipment loads.

1.03 REFERENCE STANDARDS

The UPS system defined within this specification shall be designed and manufactured
according to latest revision of the following standards. Where a conflict arises between
these documents and statements made herein, the statements in this specification shall
prevail.
A. UL Standard 1778, 4th Edition; and c-UL Listed
B. CSA 22.2 No. 107.1
C. NEMA Type 1 Enclosure
D. FCC Part 15, Class B
E. IEC 61000-3-2
F. ANSI C62.41, Category A
G. ANSI/NFPA 70
H. EN62040-2

1.04 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

A. The UPS shall be designed to operate as a true on-line double-conversion,
voltage and frequency independent (VFI) system in the following modes:

1. NORMAL - Under normal input conditions energy from the mains shall be
channeled through the input converter, which supplies the output
converter and, together with the battery charger, keeps the battery fully
charged. Surges and spikes shall be blocked completely at the input
converter and very unstable mains can be supported. The output
converter synthesizes a completely new AC output sine wave to supply
the load (electrical equipment).

2. ON-BATTERY - In the event of a mains power failure (i.e. mains absent

or outside tolerance) the output converter uses the energy reserve stored
in the battery to continue to produce AC power, ensuring unbroken
output. No interruption or alteration shall ever be noticed in the output
power. In the event of an extended mains failure, the output converter
shall stop when the battery energy has been used up. At this point, the
UPS is no longer able to power the connected equipment. When the
mains voltage is re-established within tolerance, the input converter shall
be supplied again by the mains and the batteries shall be recharged,
making them ready to support future power failures.

SECTION [26 33 53] [16611]: STATIC UNITERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY

3. RECHARGE - Upon restoration of utility / mains AC power, after a utility /

mains AC power outage, the input converter shall automatically restart
and resume supplying power to the inverter and to the battery charger to
recharge the battery.

4. INTERNAL BYPASS - If the output converter is unable to deliver the

demanded output power (overload, over temperature) the bypass switch
shall automatically transfer the load to the mains. If bypass operation is
caused by an overload situation, the UPS shall try to switch back to
output converter after 0.1 seconds, without generating any alarm. This
way bypass alarms due to inrush currents, which normally last less than
0.1 seconds, shall be avoided. If the overload situation still exists after
three switch-back attempts (i.e. the overload is not caused by inrush
currents), the unit shall remain in bypass mode, generating a bypass
alarm. The unit shall switch back to output converter when the overload
has been removed. If bypass operation is caused by over temperature,
the unit shall switch back when the temperature has dropped below
alarm level. When the normal situation is restored, the load shall be
transferred back to the output converter.

5. AUTOMATIC RESTART - Upon restoration of utility / mains AC power,

after a utility/mains AC power outage and complete battery discharge,
the UPS shall automatically restart and resume supplying power to the
critical load and the battery charger automatically recharges the battery.
This feature shall be capable of being disabled by the user.

submitted with the proposal. The manufacturer’s product safety certification shall
be furnished giving company names and UPS model numbers. All deviations to
