• No addition or edition of speech
• Spellings and accent can be taken care of
• Can be written as well as audio recorded
• Transcription is helpful if can be added
• Consent of client is mandatory
• Transcription come with standard symbols for
time lapse, brief pause, alternate terms used,
paraverbs.
Format of a written verbatim
• Introduction: Capturing the situation in which
counseling happened
• Interview: Capturing the conversation and
exchange of interpretations between client
and counselor
• Conclusion: Summarizing the conversation
and observations and indicating future
procedure.

• As per APA guidelines on:
– Maintaining a record of collected through any
medium
– Content of record pertaining to current
complaints
– Confidentiality of records and its limitations
– Production of records under mandatory
circumstances and emergency.
