GMOs and Their Effects 2
Abstract
GMOs have a huge effect on the food industry and should continue to have a huge effect on it.
Although in certain situations they are unjust in the case of animals, they have a huge benefit in
the farming industry. GMOs do a lot for farmers and should continue to be used.
GMOs and Their Effects 3
What makes up the food we eat and how does it affect us? There are a lot of different
types of GMOs and all of them have different effects on crops and animals that we consume.
Although some may say that GMOs are bad and should not be consumed, GMOs are not a bad
thing because they help the farmers produce the crops quicker to make them more available, in
some scenarios make food taste better, and help consumers get more of these crops for their
dollar.
GMO crops have many positive effects on the people that produce them and the people
that consume them. GMOs do many good things for farmers that help them put and produce
these crops at a fast rate. Some GMOs that are infused into the seeds of crops help defend against
insects that might try to eat the plant and kill it. This means that farmers do not have to use spray
on pesticides which have been proven not to be healthy or safe to consume. Another main GMO
that is used helps fight away weeds and other invasive plants. Those invasive plants suck up
water that the crops need to thrive. This also makes sure that the farmers don’t have to spray
weed killer and it potentially gets on crops and ruins them. These GMOs are just a few examples
of how they help the crops stay healthy for us to consume. It also helps them grow without any
outside problems.
Since the farmers are able to produce crops efficiently without them dying off due to
weeds and insects, they become more available to the consumers. The crops grow faster due to
the GMOs which means a lot more are getting put on shelves for consumers to buy. That goes
the same for livestock. They do grow a lot quicker and get slaughtered quicker but it is not good

for the animals. But with more of these crops and meat being produced will also help to lower
prices. If there is more crops and meat being produced then prices will go down because not all
will get bought and consumed.
Although GMOs benefit farmers and consumers, they could not be 100% safe to
consume. Consumers are not sure what is GMO and what is not anymore because GMO foods
are not labeled. Many companies that do not support GMOs want to see them get labeled
because people deserve to know what they are putting in their bodies. GMOs in animals can lead
to painful lifestyles for them. The animals can get so big so quickly that they can’t support
themselves and end up breaking their legs and dieing. This is obviously a very cruel way to treat
animals and should not be allowed. We also are not aware what has GMOs in it and what doesn’t
which is also a big argument against them.
GMOs have a huge effect on the food industry and should continue to have a huge effect
on it. Although in certain situations they are unjust in the case of animals, they have a huge
benefit in the farming industry. GMOs do a lot for farmers and should continue to be used.
